How is it a “tip” if you’re expected to pay it, even if you get crap service? Why don’t they just add a 20% “service charge” onto the bill if it’s that important. I’m with Moretti on this. I hate the American “tipping” culture. It’s BS
I have never been to America, we simply can’t afford to travel but as soon as I sell my Ferrari I’m going to America, I intend to blow a small fortune on eating out, gambling and questionable late night entertainment, you can be rest assured I’ll be tipping my tits off [emoji4]
Don’t forget the legislation bit RE minimum wage for tipped workers. It’s just how the system works and it’s part and parcel of living or visiting there. The problem I have is that tipping has crept into this country and staff expect it inspite of getting double time etc for working on a weekend….
I did but only my left eye was open My left brain latched onto the restauranteurs gouging , the rest was psycho-babble I only believe in tipping if the food and service are exceptional Normally Americans are great at righting wrongs but they've got it wrong here and they are willing to turn a blind eye .................. come the revolution restauranteurs will be close to the front for the guillotine
Well, white people from the past, just like here I'm getting sick of my generation having to pay for any ills from the past
Been there every year I was in the RAAF (3 month deployments) , then twice with computer companies (WANG, Northern Telecom) and twice on holidays - travelling the entire length and breadth, lovely people but a bit dumb in understanding the wider world And the tip % rate was 10, now the restauranteurs are getting a bigger ride with 20-25% FMD , we might as well hire our own staff while we're eating, pay them the minimum wage and then a tip if we think they were exceptional
Over 8 times but over a year more than you .... and I worked in NY and LA for 2 months each time installing the network for Contiki's parent company, best meal in my life was on 82nd street (?) restaurant, great service great food and gave them a great tip (was a lot more than 25% but I doubt I'll ever have a better meal than that .............. unless I get an invite to Greg's
Fine, you and the man in black can be in charge of tipping on the AVCO tour of Tas,as long as it's your wallet you're opening.
It's not a set amount. There was discussion on this in Silver from a Kiwi about a yearish ago. The % was all over the place and this was quoted by the Americans. 25% was considered high.
And in that thread a LOT of Americans disagreed with it ..... I'm with them but I'm not against tipping although Neralee makes me look like a cheapskate as she tips everyone everywhere for anything !! We were on the Inside Passage cruise to Alaska 2 years back and on that cruise they included a $15 per day per passenger to your bill ..... BTC Neralee would leave a on the bed as well
