So I was looking for an additional F-car to keep my 348 spider company. At a local show my wife said that a 12 cyl was in order and she likes the lines of the Testorossa. That was all I needed to hear to start the search.

So I thought what better to do on a Sunday night then cruise the net just to see what is out there! I found a 18K Testorossa in Wisconsin about 4 hours from my home. Now I know that this was a scam or a typo but it was the year and color I wanted so I thought that I would play along to see what might happen. For your review and laughter, start at the bottom to follow a weak scam.

    Hi Chris,

The car had 5 owners including me, but no accidents at all, and I have the maintenance receipts going back to '88. I can arrange shipping to you with no problems, with 5 days inspection period so you can properly check it. Let me know if you would like to proceed. I also re-attached the photos. I have a clear title. You can carfax with the VIN: ZFFSG17A8J0077145. As for the view, I had a maxillary fracture two weeks ago after a fall in rock climbing and I still have to wear a protection for a week or two. My doctor will know better at the end of this week. For the same reason I can't yet speak on the phone.

    Regards,
    Colleen

    Dear Chris,

First of all thank you for your interest. My last price is $18,700. The car is in good overall condition. I have maintenance records with receipts dating back to '88. I have clear title. I'm the fifth owner but the records are very accurate, there's nothing to worry about. It was never involved in any accidents. I want to inform you that my current location is Everett, Washington.
If the distance is not an issue we can move forward.
Let me know what info you need.

    All the best,
    Colleen

$18k? holy hell. I'd tread carefully here my friend. One misstep and it's game over for you. Definitely proceed cautiously, or just turn and run as fast as possible in the other direction. The ball's in your court.

    I VETTED IT ALL OUT.

IT'S A SCAM. HE/SHE IS USING THE VIN OFF A TR IN VA TO TAKE A DEPOSIT OR THE FULL 18.7.

THE REAL TR WITH THAT VIN IS DRIVING AROUND IN VA ON THE ROAD WITH A TAN AND BLACK INTERIOR...NOT TAN AND BROWN LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE SEEN IN THE PHOTOS.

Just finished an ill-advised 1-year stint in the newspaper biz that was part of Tribune (hence, Cars.com). We fielded at least 2 or 3 scams like this every single week. The dead give-away is the yahoo.com or gmail.com email address.

That, and of course, the completely ridiculous price.

If she is in Everett, have Roy check her out. Ask her where the car is in Wisconsin. I know just about EVERY Ferrari owner in the state and can get someone to go take a look. Not to mention, I was born and raised there (spent 30 years there up until 3 years ago). I know someone in every country who could call this girl's bluff.

    Keep me in the loop.........

Hey guys it clearly is a scam, I just thought you would enjoy the laugh. I was almost involved in a scam like this before and well I just like messing with these idiots. When I was selling one of my Porsches these type of scammers tried it with me. They were from "England" and wanted to send 5K more for moving the car to the exporter, I was of course asked to pay the exporter with the extra 5K and the car of course had to move quick as it was a gift for the brokers client. I was having fun and knew it was a complete scam so I thought that I would see where it would go. They went as far as sending a fake cashier check, my bank confirmed that the cashier check was stolen from the bank. Well no one was found, they covered their tracks well but at least one of the stolen cashier checks is off the street. What I learned was if a deal is too good it really is, no one pays more for a car then asks you to pay the exporter, NO Testarossa is $18,700 unless it has a 4 cyl and was made by Pontiac or parts are included to rebuild the car. Before this all started I really thought it was a typo and the car was close when it was in Wisconsin but then it travel to Everett, the farthest place away from Wisconsin. I want to see where this will go, I will keep you informed for a good laugh.

Tell him that you want to send a cashier's check, but you don't have an overnight account. He will need to provide you with a Fedex or UPS account. Then post it here, and we can send each other a few boxes of rocks using the account number.

That is hilarious. Actually, if you get that account, I will use it to order something from Ricambi. The ship charges to Canada are at least $30.
