As the new owner of a 88 1/2 TR, I have noticed that the interior lighting when you open the doors at night is pretty much worthless. First, how do you remove an replace the overhead console light bulbs. Second, can the lense be replace or cleaned as mine is a dirty yellow color.

My final question is what should a TR idle at after warm up?

    Thanks for your input.

My 86 TR idles at 1050 with the a/c off and it drops to about 1000 when the a/c is on. Keep in mind that you have to set the idle twice on this car, once on the left bank and again on the right bank. The trick is getting them the same while hitting the targeted 1050 rpm. Be sure the carpet isn't under the accelerator pedal, it can keep the pedal from returning all the way and leave you idling high.

My center overhead light is rather dim as well. I've never tried to open it. The only thing that really need to see inside is the key hole and it is lit from within when the door is open. I don't drive much at night so it hasn't been an issue. This reminds me, I should probably open the headlights to see if they need to be cleaned, I'm not sure I have cleaned them in years.

The only lights I have ever had to replace are the tiny little third brake lights in the "chicklet" over the engine bay. That was easy after I located the correct bulbs from a specialty lighting shop in town.

I do have an intermittent bulb on my gas guage recently. I guess it's loose or something. If I hit a bump it will work until I hit another bump.

When warming up a Testarossa, check the oil and water temperature lights during idle rather than the tachometer. When the oil and water have appropriately warmed up, then you're good to go. Your gear oil might not yet be warm enough to shift into second, but a few first-to-third shifts will alleviate that and second will welcome you.

What Testarossa have you recently acquired...? Is it yellow...? If so, is it 77762...?

I also had an 88.5. I remember the interior lighting acually being a whole series of lights in a row as oppossed to a single bulb. The procedure to get to it is on here somewhere, but you basically had to bend it on the middle and pull out the couple of tabs at the end - I remember doing it & was afraid of cracking it or scratching the leather. Had a heck of a time finding the correct light bulb for the map light up there as well.

Great response. everybody, My new old TR is 77257. I bought it in Boston. As far as I can tell, my key hole does not lite up, is it broken, or do some cars not have that feature.

I took the cieling light unit apart on my 512TR and there was actually a shield in there to diminish the lighting so if you remove that it gets brighter
