I have been looking to keep my TR and get something for the track days, like a 355 Challenge car, which together will mean I have well over $100K into my 'collection.' Should I just get a CS? I can't make up my mind. I have to admit, I love the CS but am worried about the 'repair' issues that go with the 360 platform and feel this might take a lot of the fun out of track days. I also love the TR and the fact that I can do most of the repairs myself. Also, there is no Ferrari dealer within a couple hundred miles of where I garage the car. What kind of 'after acquired' repair costs come with a CS versus a 355C when you track the car, say 5 or 6 times a year at 'drivers ed' events? Can you run a CS without frequent and convenient dealer support?

Yea, I would have to put a lot more money out to go with a CS.

I think you will have a lot more expensive repairs with a 355, 30,000 mile service means engine out and $10K for the 355 vs no engine out and $3.5K for 360...

I would feel more comfortable on the track in a 60k car than one that costs triple.

See thread entitled "How much to fix this?" I am not talking about run of the mill stuff like major service...although you make a good point. I guess the engine out frequency needs to be considered in the equation.

    Boxer 12,
Im in the same current position, I was thinking of trading the Tr for the 360. But after careful thinking I am opting to keep it and am currently looking into a 355 to match the TR. I personally will be going that route. I like the idea of 2 horses in the stable as opposed to just 1, just my .2cents.

Boxer12, let me tell you as a previous owner of a CS. I tracked the car 1 time and my but hole was puckering the whole time!!! going 110 mph around the corner thinking if thing lets go and i stuff it into the wall....OH SHIAT!!! I drove the car on track at what i felt was about 70% of my limit (Probably 40% of the cars) got it home it one piece and never did it again. I must say i then went out and bought a Mini cooper S tracked it and had more fun then any car i had driven on track..Must be the fact 25k into the wall is a bit different than 200k not to mention the fact there isnt much resale value on a CS thats been twisted.. Just my .o2 As far as the TR i think they are the absolute best looking Ferrari in the whole family, plus you actually get to shift it!!!

Yea, the pucker factor will be less as I scrape the wall at Mid-America! I expect the maintanance to be a lot less too. I will continue to look at CS with envy, however!

I agree, at this point, I am pretty damn satisfied with my decision. I got the raw power (100+ more than a 355C or CS actually) and the refined excitement. Just have to alternate days! (Still envy CS)

Unless you are going to track it at least several times a year, I would stick with what you got.

Agree I opted for the 355 to go with the TR best of both worlds thats the way I would go.

just curious why do u feel u have to go with a ferrari as ur track car? there are so many good choices...and a GT3 would do a lot more for you for the same price; maintanence WAY less....

Kinda reminds me of a story. A local guy bought a 360 Challenge car. I told him no matter what you do...don't crash the car. spin it, break the gearbox, ruin tires, but never crash the car. So the next thing I hear ...he crashed his car. So.....

Rule number 1 - Don't crash the car.

If you break Rule number 1. Cry.

In all seriousness...If you crash a 360 you will be very very unhappy. It will cost immense amounts of money to correct body damage on that aluminum. Another Challenge driver here even joked that only his divorce cost more than his repair bills on his crashed (twice) 360.

Get the 355 if you have any doubts at all....or cant bear the idea of an 80k in repairs to aluminum

The 360 will cost ALOT more in repairs too. namely the engine....and that WILL have to come out for a rebuild of both the top and bottom end after 100+ track hours. If you skip that...plan on blowing up your engine

Most 355 Challenge are not street legal. That's why they are so cheap.
(and the 360 CS so useful)
Try to make a 355 C legal for your public roads and you will forget your TR . :)

I am going to set up the Viper for the track and see if I survive! Sebring in April should give me a good idea if I want to just go with that and meanwhile, I am keeping my eyes open for a nice 97 or 98 355C factory car. I can't deal with the 80K repair bills, know what I mean? Jim
