I decided to tackle the sticky plastic issue on my steering cover. Got the 5 screws removed, and separated the bottom from the top without a problem.

However, while the upper trim cover is loose, it won't come out. It seems the leather piece is "stuck" or binding somewhere behind where I can't get to it. Is that attached somehow?

I so have the wheel as far down as it will go, but I also read on a few other posts there are a couple screws to loosen that'll allow the steering column to drop even further...is that the trick?

Any thoughts? As usual, I thought this would be a piece of cake...

    Thanks,
    Mike

There is a strap that limits the column tilt function that can be loosened in order to allow the column to drop further to aid in the removal (additional clearance) of the top clam shell, the strap is a solid bar of aluminum on the drivers side of the column with two 8mm bolts, remove the front and loosen the rear.

I just realized that you were asking about a 430 not a 360, I cannot confirm that they are the same.

The same procedure may apply though. The parts look nearly identical.

I'll check for the strap when I get home.

I had the same problem with my 360 and had to remove both bolts and the strap to completely drop the steering column. There are two plastic extensions that still get hung up so it is a fiddling sort of thing to manipulate the shroud out. I broke those studs before completely removing the strap. Epoxy fixed the studs.

I ended up detaching the leather trim... it was just glued on. It took some maneuvering, but got it out.

Stripped both halves down and repainted with Duplicolor black plastic paint.
