My 5 day old (for me) 99 spider has a button on the center console just below the power mirror control. It is inside a molded 90 degree angle. In my manual this space is empty. Thank you all

Congratulations on the new arrival, the position you mention was the location on the ABS override button on early 2.7 cars for the euro market, but I've seen a few aftermarket switches placed there. Try posting a pic if possible.

Yup. ABS override is what the hole in the console is for. Not legal in the US so it is plugged.

Mine had a toggle switch in there when I bought the car. I turned that switch on and off for a month. Car on, Car off, parked, driving. Could never figure out what it did.

So one day I pulled the ashtray out and then the panel to see where the wires went.

No wires went to switch at all. hahahahaha

Apologies for the state of the console. Help is on the way. Here is a fuzzy pic of this mystery knob. Not ready to activate header failure quite yet

Thank you! Makes sense there is a detector mounted somewhere - undiscovered. I hope it is able to turn the volume down. Previous owner must have have been deaf. In my neighborhood it is on constantly and very load. Appreciate the help

So, now we know. So, let me ask the owner. Are you going to leave the radar detecter in there if one is present. Also could you please take a pic of your dash in the middle. Or maybe would be easier for you to tell us where the radar detecter is located. Thanks. It's just that I have an aftermarket one custom built in from lord knows when.....

I intend to leave it in. It is apparently brand new. There are 2 tiny LEDs up on the dash. Looks like a 1st class install. I just want to quiet it down a bit and I'm trying my new button to turn it on and off. It appears to have been on for the truck trip Phoenix to the Tx coast. I'll take some pics. I am using Stickynomore for the console issues and all three vents. Thanks again!

On the K40 Radar Detectors, if you turn the knob counter-clockwise, you would lower the volume. If you turn the knob clockwise, you would increase the volume.
If you turn the knob all the way to the left until it clicks, you just turned the detector off.
The lower ring is for City vs. Highway signal filtering.

There are two parts to the K40, one mounted near the rear bumper towards the driver side and the other near the front bumper also towards the driver side.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, that's a K40 radar detector. Mine is in the same spot. Center knob is volume and larger outer knob has three positions: City - Off - Highway. When you rotate the outer knob from center to either the right or left, it should give you a series of beeps and chirps as it goes through a start-up test. The dash LEDs show if it's detecting radar in the front or back. I suspect with new technology like laser, these radar detectors either are, or will soon be, obsolete.

My car also have this knob but it looks little bit different. Any clues what is it? Moves only left-right with center position. Feels like OEM not aftermarket but there is nothing in manuals regarding it.

Yes I know that ABS cut-off is for Europe only but I'm in Europe. Car is '97 (5.2) and it also must not have ABS cut-off but there is this rotating knob %)

Pull the ashtray and take a look. As noted...mine went nowhere :)

Mine now has a rocker switch wired to the conv top override switch. I lower & raise my top that way....until I fix the seat pots and God knows what else is wrong with the electronics of it.

I think it is just the seat pots. No big deal. I bled the system, it work fine mechanically. I just need some quality time to sort the electrics. That is what winter is for :)

    Back on topic..... :)

No they aren't They work great and as designed. If you don't want to fix the things that go wrong on your car properly then why bother? Really...
