So I have seen a few F40s where the "F40" logo/emblem that is located on the passenger-side of the rear spoiler/wing is in a color other than Rosso Corsa – my question is whether any U.S.-spec F40s were originally delivered this way from Ferrari, or it is a modification? I am assuming it is an aftermarket modification, so if that is the case, is it typically done by somehow repainting that section of the spoiler, or is it usually some sort of decal. I have uploaded two example pictures below to illustrate my question. Thanks!

Thanks – sometimes you just need a second opinion as a sanity check. Definitely seen it on a few cars so I had to ask (as my first post on FC) – I would think decals would be treated as a different kettle of fish compared to sectional repainting.

I seem to recall an original photo in period of a line of F40, think it was at the factory, and one or some of the cars had the F40 logo highlighted in a different colour - I cant find it anywhere, or I maybe completely wrong?

Marcel, do you recall this photo, or am I dreaming?

I'm not sure that would be a standard production car.

I thought there was a picture of an early F40 with a decal instead of the usual impression in the rear spoiler for the name. Might have been in one of the early French car magazines.

When the car was first presented, it did not have the F40 impression on the wing. Indeed, there was a decal.

Around that time, the prototypes and demo cars didn’t even have the decal: just a clean wing on both sides.

Here is an actual picture that shows the decal slightly peeling off.

Some prototypes did have the F40 logo indentation on the wing's DS as shown here https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/f40-prototypes.286669/

To the question whether any USA spec F40s were originally delivered with the F40 indentation painted yellow or black from Ferrari, the answer is no.

75052, a prototype (note the 5 vents instead of the 4 of production cars, and the pre-production door mirrors) had the F40 logo indentation.

In this image of an F40 prototype there is no decal or name impressed on the spoiler upright at all.

The nature of prototypes and pre-production cars is they are always different and there isn't uniformity amongst them as the maker tries out different looks.

However, both Eu/ROW and USA production cars all came with the F40 logo indentation without contrasting paint in them.

Appreciate you (and others) answering my question. I didn't expect my first FerrariChat post to get this kind of traction. I'll have to see what other obscure questions are on my mind.

the appreciation from 2009 has been very linear and low vol compared to many of the other cars i bought during the financial crisis. the support for f40s has truly been inspiring.
