In July we will have the annual VA event again. Haley and Chelle can comment on the details, here just a few pics from last year. FOC will give each participant with a Ferrari a commemorative plaque (similar to the one from last year). Join us in supporting our troops! The event is free. Who's in? Andreas, thank you for starting this thread and my apologies to all. Many ~life things~ have made for tough year, but I am working on the VA Show here and there as I can. Sunday, July 27, 2008 North Chicago VA Medical Center 3001 Green Bay Rd. (Signage will be posted on grounds to direct to parking area) Registration at 11:30am (can arrive earlier) Hot dogs start grilling about 11:45am Veterans come out after lunch Trophies between 3-3:30pm Parade after trophies to end the day. This should be a good year again, I am getting more clubs contacting me and it seems to be taking off by itself this year. I have donations for the hot dogs again and with John's chili (Thank You John) and other goodies, we should have a nice lunch for everyone. This year I have a new item or 2 for goodie bags and I am still trying to come up with a neat free raffle giveaway. I shall check in daily if anyone has any questions or concerns. My thanks again to everyone, your support for this event means the world to me. My Best, Haley
In that first pic, did that murci belong to Gene before he sold it? He was telling me he had the only orange on orange murcielago roadster in the world. By the way I'll definitely come. My grandpa stayed there for a while just before he passed. Never thought I'd go back there for any reason.
I've decided it's time for me to stop the racing thing, so I've put my race car up for sale. That means I'll be free that weekend and would like to attend. This sounds like a great event.
Looking forward to see you again. I'll be happy to discuss virtual racing if that helps. Will you bring the GT40? Pleasepleasepleaseplease. I so want to see that car in the flesh (have been in one at the BRIC, but want to check it out further). I'm sure the vets would get a big kick out of it too. Who's in? Haley/Chelle 250 GTO-R Andreas 308 John 328 Richard 348C Gerry 328 Daryl ???
Superformance continuation car. That means over 90% of identical parts. But with added creature comfort such as A/C and slightly wider seats. For an authentic one you need to turn to FChatter Napolis. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was thinking of the Dino, but if you think the GT40 would be better I can do that. Mine's a MKI. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sheesh, talk about a tough decision! I forgot you still have the Dino. So if I may have a wish, I'd still prefer the Dino to the GT40. Haley/Chelle 250 GTO-R Andreas 308 John 328 Richard 348C Gerry 328 Daryl 246 Sandy 360
Daryl, thank you! I dont even want to make a choice on this one. Either one would be great. Have never had a Dino visit the VA before. We have had a GT40 replica visit a few years back. A very tough call. A side note...I am getting in some donations from Jewel Foods, Jelly Belly, Ocean Spray and Meguiar's! Hoping for a few others I have sent out. A few more clubs have contacted me, one being a military vehicle club. The one gent I talked with is trying to get ~~A Few Good Vehicles~~ to visit. We are having the new parking garage ground breaking ceremony before the car show, so all the construction and interior roads should be good to go by then. The whole area inside VA grounds looks much different, but the viewing area for the cars is still the same location for those of you who have attended in the past. New folks can follow the signage leading to the parking area. I will keep checking the status to plan routing as needed. That is about it so far, more to come.
Uh, oh. Not to side track this thread, but Daryl's continuation car is in a different league: The one you're talking about is a Fiero with a new fibre glass body. Daryl's is made to over 90% as the original. Inside and out. It has A/C, slightly wider seats and the shifter in the wrong place (if I recall correctly), but that's it. The rest is like the original. Still I'm voting for the Dino.
Okay, last offthread post. Andreas has it right. The GT40 is built from the original working drawings, including the full monocoque tub. I'm trying to drive it a lot right now to make sure it's all working correctly. I do enjoy the Dino for different reasons. I may just flip a coin...or bring the Mangusta or Espada. Andreas, oh yes, I know it is a world apart from the one that visited a few years back. I did not write it the way I meant. I just was saying that the Veterans got to see a "GT40"...kinda like they get to see a "250GTO". Now what I really wanted to post was that both cars HAVE to come. Daryl, any of your cars would be wonderful. Without my input, looks like you have 1 vote for each.
You can get the shifter in the correct place but it's additional cost. Dave and I considered one of these but couldn't get past the fixed side windows.
Good morning to all, Well, after a few weeks I have received a few more donations and things are moving along nicely. The food looks to be set up with enough to feed a small army (or Marine platoon) I just got my truck loaded up with Ocean Spray's juice donation, and of course we will have the water and soda lined up as well. This year the military in the area may be in much greater numbers as well. Most buy cars after they are out in the fleet so I am working on getting a shuttle bus for the young Sailors out of boot camp and in Corpsmen School. I know we want to try and get the Prancing Horses all parked together, and I think I have a great spot in mind for that. Question, I know it is not an official group drive event, but did everyone want to meet at a resturant on the south west corner of 41 and Buckly and roll in together or try to keep a number of spots open in the area i am thinking of? Lastly, for some odd reason your Lippizan's dont have much cargo room. Chelle and I will bring a decent sized umbrella for everyone as shade is limited. Everyone wont be able to be under it at the same time (unless you REALLY like each other) but it and a few chairs will be there for you. Have a great weekend everyone!
