It's not as thick as you'd think. It's a bit of an optical illusion. The diameter of the wheel is much smaller than the road cars we're used to seeing and that's where the discrepancy lies.

Marcel - what is the oldest existing Ferrari, restored or otherwise? Also, is it privately owned or does Ferrari own it? I’ve often wondered.

1947 166 Spider Corsa #002C is the earliest Ferrari that is the most complete. It has the original frame, engine and gearbox. Jim Glickenhaus bought the Ferrari in 2004. This was the third chassis built by Ferrari. It should be noted that the serial numbers cause lots of confusion due to new numbering systems that evolved at Ferrari!
Lurking in the background is the first chassis built known as 01C. However that car is missing it's engine and who knows what else has changed on this car in the years following it's race history with Ferrari. There is much discussion surrounding the earliest Ferrari cars and their serial numbers.

Why is the tach black and all the other gauges white?

Back in the late 70s, a friend of mine owned the 412 MI, #0744 as I recall.
Are there any interior pictures of this car?
