I don't have any vintage pics of John in his Ferrari, but here's one from Sunday afternoon in his Vette. I suspect that he may have been No. 8 in past years. I hope this clue helps your search.

    Hey,

Another great weekend for *most* participants!.... Frank did indeed make it back for the "banquet" on Sunday evening and seemed to be in remarkably good spirits considering the ordeal he'd just been thru....

I was on track when it happened, and was stopped by a marshall lower on the hill. John H then told me to follow him on up, and I arrived at the scene about 5 minutes after it happened - Frank and his passenger were out of the car and two fire engines were already there.... A sobering experience and reminder of what can happen....

What did surprise me was there were no attempts being made to put out the fire - I have no idea why, but they just let it burn to a cinder - Maybe letting it go reduces any "environmental impact"? Anyone have any other ideas as to why they let it go for so long before putting it out?

The guys that subsequently went off in the Corvette at the same turn were really lucky....The really good news is no one was seriously hurt....

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - Thanks for the pix! I have some video that I've got to massage a little but should be posting up sooner than last years effort....

That makes total sense. But, for sure, when I arrived on scene the car was burning good, and nobody was making any attempt to extinguish it - I was surprised exactly because I could see the (very dry) underbrush going up.....

    +1

And rather than "probably" a total, I'd say "definitely" a total :( The next Q then becomes - How/why did it catch fire so fast?....

Based upon my brief discussions with some local peeps on Monday, they're just happy no one was hurt.... I still believe the vast majority of locals are in favor of the event - BUT, I do think "we've" got to ensure a "vocal minority" doesn't mess it up.....

    As always, my 02c, Cheers,
    Ian

What was Art's time in the Mondial. Did it start with a 5? ;)

Sorry I missed it this year. Sounded exciting as usual.

+1. Glad no major injuries were reported.

    Mike,

No Mondials were in attendence. Missed you at the event! :( You need to be there next year. :)

And, for the first time in my memory, there were no 308's, 328's or 348's in addition to a dearth of Mondials :(

Yup, saw you parked at the bottom of the hill. Your car would look great with a number on the side. Next year more driv'n and less watch'n.

Agreed it would look good. Probably neither the car nor I were up to it this year though.

    Working on it.

    Nice video!

A few more pics. The first one shows the "straight." These were taken from my corner post at turn 11 on Sunday afternoon. Cars round turn 7 and head down the "long" straightway, turn right, then left then left again and right around turn 11. My speedo indicated 121 at the chicken out point. My GPS said I topped out at 110. I'm sure my speedo is more accurate ;)
