Hi All, I will be visiting the UK for a few days on business late next week (the 30th) and will be staying for the weekend. I will be in the greater London area and will have a rental car. Any car related events going on, Ferrari or otherwise? Any suggestions for automotive museums? Any recommendations and feedback would be appreciated! Thanks, Shawn
This is one of the best motorsport exhibits at the original home of British motorsport including section of the banked oval track. https://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/ Shame you are not over on the 10th October as it’s Italian car day then and a few of us are there with our cars. Mercedes Benz world is next door to Brooklands to make it a full day. The ace cafe also has history for petrol heads and is worth a visit.
Brooklands is a good shout and close. Also you can see what’s on at Silverstone or Brandshatch; both striking distance from London. There is also the Silverstone museum that’s supposed to be good. Bit further is Beaulieu motor museum. As far as I’m aware not a lot of events that weekend; I think we are almost evented out as there has been a lot happening this summer…making up for lost time! enjoy your stay.
Forgot!! If you want to watch some racing Castle Coombe has their historic event on the Saturday. Not too far from London. If you need any pub/hotel advise there let me know. You can also visit the village as being particularly pretty.
Thanks guys - really appreciate the info and suggestions. Neglected to mention I’m also a big F1 fan (and motorsports in general) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Castle Combe looks like your best bet - https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/shows/autumn-classic/02/10/2021/what's-on - should be great fun. Hoping to go myself, but only 50/50 just now.
Got my ticket for Castle Combe this morning. Anyone else going? Sounds like a plan. I'll email you once I have had a think about timing.
Rent a petrol car not a diesel , diesel is hard to get here at the moment, and you will stand more chance with petrol, but both are in short supply at the moment and lots of petrol/ gas stations are closed as they have run out of fuel.
Thanks - that’s exactly what I did. The rental place also gave me the car with half a tank instead of a full one as usual. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It’s most likely going to rain on Saturday so I assume it will still happen, come rain or shine? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes, the forecast looks rather disappointing. However, I think it most unlikely that the racing will not go ahead - these events are only rarely cancelled and the weather would have to be pretty appalling for that - and I am still intending to go. If you do decide to attend, it would be good to meet and, as you can see, I am planning to meet Adrian, too. You can call / text me on +447899 961721.
I’ve gone down to watch in similar conditions. Whilst fairly yuck; watching them slide the vintage open seaters around quarry in the pissing rain is something to see! Quarry is the best corner to watch from by far. I think it has the highest number of offs of any corner in the Uk. (Managed to slide the 348 around it earlier this year on a track day; great fun!) If you do come, there isn’t much shelter other than the canteen at Castle Coombe; so not to sound like your mum; but wrap up warm! And don’t forget to wonder into the village as well; well worth it for sight seeing.
Guys Given the weather and my location (and the fuel shortage), I decided not to go. Would’ve been nice to meet you all - thanks for the recommendations. I’ll be back and will keep them in mind. Shawn Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Probably wise. Racing was on, but so was the rain. Fuel is also patchy down here. Enjoy your stay and shout next time; we can see what’s on for you.
Thanks again everyone. I did end up making it to the Brooklands Museum today. I love both cars and planes so what a treat! Especially to see and go inside the Concorde! I will be back next year, possibly around the time of the British F1 race. I’ll reach out again then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
