Hello My Island friends, Im a frequent visitor to the Islands, mainly Maui, Lanai, and Oahu. I just returned from 8 days in Maui. The VOG friggin KILLED me!!! Im got sick as a dog. My lungs burn, throat itches, nose stuffed, headache, body aches, etc....... Even after the really thick VOG kinda cleared a few days ago I still felt horrible. I almost flew home but my wife was having too much fun so I stuck it out. Im home now and slowly feeling better. Any of you have this reaction to VOG??? Ape
I was out on the lava flow one day when the wind shifted it over us and it started to rain... BURN!!!!!!!!!
Volcanic smog (VOG) comes over the mountains in Oahu once in a while... I'm there 2-3 times a year on business and have experienced it several times. I just stay in my hotel and watch the "cloud" flow over the mountains and try to stay inside. The hotel I stay at is 31 floors on Kuhio (Pacific Monarch) and the roof has a great view of the VOG coming in over the hills. But after over 40 trips to HI since 2004 it's not been too much of an issue for me. I do know of what you speak though... Jedi
