WRONG. "PAM" is the alias name of racer Marsilio Pasotti, NOT of Alfredo Belponer, see http://www.malegnoborno.it/Prot-Pam.htm

Just to add a little more gas to the fire ! When I was assembling my Ferrari collection in the 70's/80s, I was fortunate to own 2 ex Filipinetti cars, 250GTO 3527, and 275LM 6119.
Following an annual visit to the Geneva Motor Show, I got a phone call telling me that an ex Filipinetti 512 was for sale. Don't ask me for details, it was too long ago!
It turned out (or so the story went) that the car was incomplete, and sitting outside in a semi dismantled state, and it was the #2 car bought by the team, as Ferrari wouldn't supply a spares package to them. It had been used as a parts car.
At the time, the thought of even attempting to get the car back together, put me off buying it, and I never did go to see it.
I have no idea what happened to these "remains".
    Don

    Marcel,

    A few comments:

The car Ferrari sold to Belponer in 1971 as N°1024 (factory invoice #1068/71) was constructed on a NEW 512 frame (NOT on the frame of the used car transferred the previous year to Garage Francorchamps as N°1024).

On the other hand: The car transferred to Francorchamps in 1970 for use by McQueen in the movie 'Le Mans' was a car with much documented previous use by the factory. While still with Ferrari the car was using a DIFFERENT ID tag and was re-numbered to N°1024 just prior to shipment to the belgian importer (Rimesso 16655).
It is confirmed and documented that this 'first' 1024 was never returned to the factory for a rebuild and conversion to 'M'.

Here is #1002 in the early 1990s at Silverstone when owned by Robert Horne who used it to set some speed records in the UK. I have a short interview with him about his collection from a magazine around the same time where he talks about how he came to buy the car and test driving it on a public road. I can scan it if anyone wants it. Apparently the car is in Germany now.

2 more older pictures of this fantastic car. I don't know who to credit the old 1970's photo to, but he's hitting the apex spot on !! (This must have been on the old Tour de France, notice the cars are road registered...!!!)

French pilot Jean-Pierre Jabouille in the 512M... And you can't imagine the sound of the Ferrari and Matra 12 cylinders in the streets when they crossed the towns.

Yeah, the Matra sounds more like a Ferrari than a Ferrari! A real screamer.

Love that photo of JPJ at the apex and those old buried tires: you know what: that seals it I always wanted to interview him about that TDF in the 512M and since I met him at Retromobile and have his contact info this goes on my to do list. He is very articulate so it should be a fun story!

Reminds me of following the 512S of Brandon Wang Gary Pearson and their police motorcycle escort in the rain in the Tour Auto 98 for two hours: I was in a fast car but had to row hard:)those tunnels...I will never forget the sound:)

    best regards,

    Marc

Fantastic 512S artwork by Nicola Wood. You can get a print or the ORIGINAL painting is also available for sale. See more details in the FChat 'FerrariAds.com' section under 'Collectibles'.

Great thread. I've spent many hours reviewing. No particular reason, but I find it fascinating. I'm left with the question of which factory cars were used in 1970. Here's my best guess. Any corrections greatly apreciated.

Are you sure it's the same chassis then this picture in may 1974 ?
The body side repaint in red for the first time since august 1971 ?

I am unable to open your attachments.
But the car is 1044. Following the severe accident at the Nürburgring (IS-7 - 1972/09/24) Mueller had the car rebuilt on the ORIGINAL chassis. There is a written statement from the chief mechanic (at the time) that the chassis was repaired and was never replaced. The same car 1044 was also entered at Silverstone IS-1 in May 1974 (Cox Kocher) and June 1974 at the Nürburgring (Cox Kocher) with race n.7. In 1975 Cox Kocher also used the Mueller 1036.
