I drove it! Finished up the water pump job this afternoon and took it for a little drive, filled the tank, ready to have some fun tomorrow.

I drove mine as well, went to a little festival down the road a bit. A/C ok for the drive out but as many have suggested, 94 degrees in slow traffic is a killer.

Took it for a drive with the Bergen county cars and coffee crowd. Good to see 2 other 308s join in and all the modern exotics. Fairly sure mine was the oldest car in the group and the only one with carbs.

Having gotten the stereo functioning I dug up some cassettes I made eons ago.
Put one in yesterday and Copeland's Fanfare For The Common Man came out. Thought that a bit too ironic for a Ferrari so I flipped the tape. Ave Maria played.
    That was more like it.

I managed to get a new heater display switch installed and calibrated both sides. And wash off the dust.. that comes from driving it yesterday!

While my 'new' to me 328 is at Ferrari of Atlanta (I still haven't seen it yet!) they were kind enough to send me some parts for clean up. They're the technical gurus, so it's silly to pay them guru dollars when I actually enjoy doing the clean up stuff.

Already did the plenum and sent it back. Turned out great. Yesterday was the cam and timing covers. Boxing them up to return tomorrow. They should finish up by next weekend... I hope!

My 1978 308 GTS had an 80's Yamaha Stereo in it. Not a bad unit but not period correct and it had a crack in the face plate. So I bought an NOS 1970's pioneer unit. No digital tuner and a nice cassette player.

So I start taking out the Yamaha unit but I find a bird's nest of wires and zip ties. Turns out in addition to the FOX X-K Radar detector, there is a 1970's car alarm.

After an hour, I traced the car alarm to the left side louver. I pulled that out but when I traced it back to the battery, both terminals were loose.

Then I pull the spare tire and find the battery is not tied down. I'm missing whatever clamp mechanism was there (another project!).

Then I had to pull the fiberglass under-hood cover to get the last of the alarm/radar detector wiring out.

Finally, I had to pull the fuse cover pull the power leads for the Radar Detector.

After 2 hours, my electronics are back to stock but the new deck is not in.

    Here is the detritus.

Painted with sem bumper coater. I was surprised how well it came out. But it still looks like a swim platform.

I'm torn between originality and aesthetics. I really would like an ansa exhaust and euro bumpers but I could no longer consider her original.

3 month ago I had a leak from the radiator and had to get it re-cored. A week ago steam was pouring out of a pin hole in the expansion tank....it's not really my season. The immediate fix was a Greek seal packing (cable strip and a piece of thick tape). This morning a new tank arrived from SF and within an hour I was back on the road with full pressure integrity.

    Best regards Peter

Bled the brakes. I am embarrassed to say just how dirty the old fluid was. I wonder if it had ever been bled before.

I washed it and took it for a ride. Miles of smiles. I'm not that pretty, but people sure do like to take my picture!

Mounting my just received Very nice condition TRX tire that I bought from a guy on craigslist on my wheel to finally have a spare. Haven't been able to drive to far away from home for years. Found out that Americas Tire will not mount and balance any tire over 10 years old. I'm mounting it myself and will take it to have it balanced later.

Went for a spirited drive with my neighbor. He led the way in his Porsche 997 with Prior Design modifications. Think we may have frightened a few folks. Was pleased with my 308's ability to keep up. Traffic on the country roads may have helped.

That's a saying we have in Northern Europe for a plumbers quick fix of any leaking water or drain piping....Not a very polite statement though.....-:)

"What did I do today, etc."-

OK, here: When I bought my 328 GTS it has a very funky older radio in it (which didn't work, anyway!), with lots of very obtrusive electronic "stuff" lying around here & there, not to mention way too many wires- under the seats, in the battery area, you name it. I pulled it all out & tossed it, good riddance. Then I bought a new Pioneer tuner with CD, bluetooth, USB port, the lot.

Only trouble... first not quite enough power to overcome the sound of the V8, even at a gentle idle, but mostly a really impossible to figure out menu accessed by nearly impossible to decipher controls. Reading the manual (easy, said the dealer!) I only got more & more frustrated...too bad, said the dealer who sold me the unit, can't return the unit as it was "special order", he said. so I found a different car stereo dealer who after some research & talking to him wound up selling me an Alpine unit with everything I had before with the Pioneer, BUT also had preset buttons (the Pioneer didn't!) and a very easy to read, large type menu screen, again, which the Pioneer didn't. So to fix the engine being louder than the tuner- always- I also had a small Alpine booster amp fitted, which works fine. I mostly listen to classical music, but once in a while I listed to something else especially when some tedious, overwrought violin concerto comes on- meaning one not written by Vivaldi- which is why I like preset buttons I do NOT have to access via a menu, or accidentally hitting the wrong button (easy to do with the Pioneer unit!) & going to the "all-Tibetan station" or whatever. Never to hear anything in English again, of course...

So there you have it, that's what I did to my Ferrari today.

    Cheers,
    Rich
