I am having some electrical problems and I opened up my fuse box to take a peak and noticed there are some serious issues happening. It looks like I am missing fuses and other things. If people could tell me what I am missing or what is wrong so I can go get the correct fuses and make some things work. Here is the previous thread that explains some of the problems I am having. Note I got one window up.

Typical old car with 12 different boneheads that have jury-rigged the fuses, relays and flashers. Get out the schematic and put it right again!

And do yourself a favor -- get one of Birdman's fuse box upgrades. Check it out at www.birdmanferrari.com. He won't stoop to self-promotion, but I'll do it for him. Get the fuse blocks, replace the old ones, and rewire to spec. Problems solved.

    Hey Liquid Retro dude,

The 308 is notorious for a funky rivited fuseblock. Birdman has made a small business out of building exelent quality replacement fuseblocks for the 308, good instructions. This is a very inexpensive, fast, no brainer maintenance item.

Clik his name and go to his web site. This may not fix all or any of your electrical problems but it will give you a very important, solid footing to start from. Many have reported electrical miracles, others, out of body experiences after the installation, (well kidding just a bit).

My next recommendation is to go to Rock auto.com and buy all new relays. Same basic rationalle.
Fill out your profile so we can know what you have. Photos are always nice :).

BTW, the relays are readily available. Change all of them out as well. Those 30 y.o. relays can't be counted on. Just get all new ones.

Rockauto.com That's where I got mine. You need to check each relay, write down what they are and order the same thing as a replacement. They sell the metal cased relays identical to the originals.

    Hey dudes,
Thanks for all the kudos! I looked at the pics and didn't think his fuseblocks themselves looked all that bad. (Of course, I couldn't see the back, which is where all the problems are...) Wiring looks like a freakin' mess though! But yeah, 308 fuseblocks are garbage and even when they look good...they aren't.

Me, stoop to self promotion? :D Ok, well maybe a little!

    Hey Steve,
Nice pic of a nice clean installation! But that blue jumper on T1-T2 on the left block is superfluous. Don't need it.

    * Go with Birdman's fuseblocks and wire it correctly(get rid of the junk wiring) , worth every bit of effort.

Thanks for the suggestion I will pull it out and see what happens. I know the wiring is a mess I will see if I can find a diagram and improve things to only stock wiring.

    STOP!!!

    LiquidRetro,

I believe Birdman's comment was in reference to FasterIsBetter (Steve)'s picture of his installation of the fuseblocks. Not to the pictures of your fuse blocks. You don't appear to have any jumpers on your fuseblocks.

Correct! LiquidRetro....yours is a freakin' mess! No offense. "FasterisBetter" (Steve) is the one with an extra jumper.

While we are on the subject of fuseblocks- what is the marked device and what does it do ? (looks like a fuseholder) -see photo attached.

Yes, Boss. You told me that once before. But since it's not hurting anything I've just left it in place until the next time I go into the dash to fiddle around with things. ;-)

    Steve,

It's an in-line fuse. The PO had installed an XM satelite system and new radio in the car. As far as I've been able to trace, it's part of that installation, which included an amplifier for the head unit of the radio. With all the other work I'm doing on the car, I haven't bothered to trace down all the non-standard wiring yet.

    Regards,
    Steve

Oh, OK. Sorry! I was just thinking that if you pull that out, you can also eliminate the piggyback connectors on both of those terminals. Much simplification!

I priced relays for my ’83 308 at four different places. RockAuto was significantly cheaper, they offered everything I needed, and their service was good.

Thanks for stopping me before I messed something up. I still have the right hand window that is stuck in the down position and all fuses are in tacked and working according to my multimeter.

+1 For the Birdman Fuse Box.

I had so many problems with my 85 308 I was going to sell it. Once I replaced the fuse box with the Birdman Fuse Box 95% of the problems went away. After changing all the relay's, the other 5% went away. Do yourself a favor if you haven't all ready. Get the Birdman's Fuse Box!

Now, do you have power to the switch? If so, how much? One of the big problems with windows is lack of sufficient voltage to get the motor to bring the window up. There are other problems as well, but that's a place to start. Then do a forum search on 308 window fix and you'll find several threads talking about how to deal with slow or stuck windows. And don't forget the relays. It's very possible that your window problem is coming from a bad relay, not the fuse box. And a bad switch can cause a drop in voltage as well.
