I'm not a fan of cooking. Hamburger is mostly for the dog.

I don't order them in restaurants, here in BC, they all think its against health regulations to do med rare. Health Canada, they recommend straight through cooking. But no law against it. But the restaurants all say its illegal. Don't like a cooked to death beef, I want it still walking.

Have nothing against hamburgers, just not something I usually get.

Good points. That's why, if you have the time and inclination, it's usually better to cook yourself than go out to eat IMO. Some folks even grind their own beef, as an additional safeguard...T

True just not a good cook. :)

I'll usually order one when I'm in the states. In WA they'll do med rare. :)

These were pretty good. But, lacked a little zing. I am now tweaking the recipe will report the results.

I upped the vinegar to 2 1/2 cups

added mustard seed and dill along with some sliced red onion and 4 garlic cloves.

Eliminated the garlic powder. So now we have:

    2 cups water
    2 1/2 cups pickling vinegar
    4tbs salt
    1/2 cup sugar
    4 cloves garlic
    handful of peppercorns
    2 tbs mustard seed
    1/2 chopped onion
    6 pickling cukes.

heat it up, dump it in, let it get to room temp, then stick in a jar or jars and refrigerate.

Hey Wax, PM me an address, I'll shoot you a jar. :D

Too much goop, too many burger patties.

I love a good burger, but wretched excess with cheese and some kind of "special sauce" isn't getting it done for me.

too many mysteries on that burger for me. :D

Okay you guys got to me.

Made a couple 1/2 patties last night - ground sirloin, Worcestershire, 1 egg, black pepper, onion powder and Hawaiian smoked Black Sea salt.
Cooked with a knob of butter in cast iron.
Topped with sautéed onion and bacon jam, sautéed creminis and topped with a slice of American cheese-product. Mayo on toasted bread - both pieces.

    Heaven.

Keep your rotten cuces away from my food.

Bacon jam? Gonna have to look that one up. Sauteed Creminis as well. OK, a cremini is a mushroom, pass on that. But Bacon JAM!!! Whoa, gonna have to make me some of that.

In-n-Out's beef is so bland that it needs all of that salty/fatty cheese and sauce (and grilled onions) to bring some flavor to the table. Truly one of the most overrated burgers ever.

Used to like going to I-n-O when it was only in Cali. Now, it's a tad too widespread here in Texas. I'd rather get a Whataburger - especially with jalapenos - on the rare occasion that I'm jonesing for a fast food burger...T

Ok, hopefully, this doesn't violate the "no fanciness" ethos of this thread. Salmon burgers (wife buys them by the ton at Costco) + toasted bun (had only slider buns handy) + slice of tomato + homemade chipotle/blueberry BBQ sauce. The latter was inspired by this recipe:
    http://www.saveur.com/article/recipes/blueberry-chipotle-ketchup

I used a lot less sugar than suggested and onion powder instead of fresh minced onions. Picture of final product, & interested bystander....T

Fish burger? I actually like salmon burgers. Yours look yummy. I have reposted the image to save folks working on following the link.

ON a side note, is that counter, with the tiles, a ***** to keep clean?

Gracias for the assist. It's a less painful way to get those Omega 3's than other oily fish options - at least according to the wife - like sardines and anchovies.

Yes, all those nooks and crannies are a PITA to keep clean! Especially, when you live with a 97 year old mother in law who loves beets and is blind as a bat!

Now we're heading way off topic.

Recently found that mixing TSP, Tri-sodium phosphate, with water and bleach was a GREAT cleaner for grout. (There's an exact recipe on the box of TSP)

Does leave a film that you have to wipe at with clean cold water a few times, but that goes away, leaving nice clean grout and tile.
