Web says peak season for artichoke from Cali is March to May. So, surprised they ain't out in full force. My grandma did a mean stuffed artichoke, kind of like this. http://www.food.com/recipe/italian-stuffed-artichokes-52019?photo=191497 I've never tried. Seems like lots of prep. T
Going to be lazy....... A&W here is a totally different menu over the U.S.. Every time I get their coupons in the mail, I get cravings. Burgers better then McDonalds and Burger King, pretty good onion rings. The burger I'll get has lettuce, tomato, bacon, mozzarella cheese and a secret sauce. They actually list the ingredients on their website for everything they serve. So the sauce isn't a total secret.
The U.S. is totally different now from 40 years ago. Back in the late 70's they got bought out and the new people changed the menu. The only thing not changed was the root beer. The Canadian A&W was using the name under perpetual license. They kept the original menu and recipes. So here its the old fashioned A&W unchanged since the founding.
At friends. They catered from Hard Eights, a well known barbecue joint in Stephenville, Texas. 'Cue and bubbly. That's "pinkies out" eating here in Texas! T
That is some fancy stuff there!! I'm getting ready to start grilling. Nothin fancy here though, just burgers and dogs for about 45-50 people. And darn near record heat here today. Wooohoo.
Yeah. Pretty fancy schmancy for barbeque. What's record heat in the PNW? Mid 70s. 😉 Recorded the first 90 degree reading in the Porsche during a back road jaunt on Tuesday...T
Was officially 81 here today. But the "official" reading for my little town is about 15 miles out of town at the airport. I think Seattle officially hit 82. That's toasty for here this early in the year. We don't usually see 80 until a month or more from now! Was nice though. Good cookout. Burgers, dogs, and a ton of pot-luck goodies for about 50. Started and done in less than 2 hours with everyone stuffed. I think you've mentioned it before but what Porsche do you have? I've got a 955 Cayenne turbo. Fun SUV!! I was cruising on the way into to work with the pano sunroof open and all the windows down rockin out!! Felt like summer!
Grilling for 45 or 50 people who are willing to put up with you equals a day in paradise from my experience, good times they are.
Well it was at work but they have all been kicking ass lately. And being such a nice day we all just kind of gathered around the grill and ate and BS'ed. If it had not been at work a beer or three would have gone very well. It was nice and they more than deserved it!!!
Wow. 80s and sunny in Seattle, sounds perfect. Cayenne turbo must be cool. When I got the Porsche itch, I initially wanted a Cayenne. Figured it'd be fun + practical. Drove a bunch of models up to and including the GTS, which I loved. Really peppy. Handling was impressive for an SUV. Heck, for any vehicle. So, extra HP and torque of a CTT must make it a blast to drive. In the end, I got a red/beige 2011 997.2s. The wife insisted that my midlife crisis car had to be a 911. See below. Love it! Only regret is that I didn't buy one sooner. T
After countless 928's, 944's and a handful of 911's, bought an 04 Cayenne S new. Its been a great vehicle. The only knock is the interior isn't as nice as Audi or Mercedes SUV lines. I like Washington State as much as British Columbia. Both Vancouver and Seattle are spectacular in spring/summer. 80's here, the record is 86.9. I'm further from the ocean, so we are usually a few degree's warmer then Vancouver. June to August 90 isn't unusual.
Try putting a bit of shredded mozzarella on the top and crisping it under the broiler. Makes it a little more difficult to eat but worth it if you love cheese.
I'm thinking of having breaded veal sandwiches tonight. I made homemade spaghetti the other day. Have some sauce left. Ah the fun part of living in the country. You get rodents no matter how clean you keep the house. I have several electric traps in several places around my house. Especially in the garage and laundry room. Key entry points. I haven't had any captures in months. This morning found a big sucker in the laundry room trap. Went outside and discovered it chewed through the dryer vent screen. Replacing with metal wire.
As a former employee who has received this form of gratitude from past employers it is a win all the way around. Well done sir. Todays lunch/dinner will be the Tequila Dinner at a long time friends family restaurant.... Crispy ground beef taco, queso puff, two ground beef enchilada covered with gravy & cheese with rice & refried beans. I must be careful of the homemade chips and salsa though....nah. Pics to follow after my nap.
coyotes get a snack! Its shocking how many mice I have in my yard. Have a ride on mower and can see them scurrying just ahead of the mower when mowing the grass. Don't feel like going out. Allergies acting up. Stealing some of the dogs chicken breasts. Plan is too bread them and fry them in the skillet. Kraft mac and cheese as a side.
Busy so lots of (great) pre-prepped food lately. Finally had a chance to make something quick and delicious today! Naan Bread Mango Chutney Breaded and fried Camembert Green onions Panini Press Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks good. I bought a sandwich grill. So far just prime rib and also done a tuna melt. Tonight I feel like pizza. I'll pick one up. We have a chain here in Canada called Panago. its not bad. A little better then Dominos. The company was founded in my town and the owners of the company live in my area. The franchise near me is therefore run extra well because the owners are always around.
Last night was what's-in-the-fridge-veggie-fajitas. We had a Spanish onion, red bell pepper, an opened jar of salsa, sour cream, carrots, broccoli, pickled turnips, and a variety of tortillas - corn, flour, crispy (flat ones, tostadas). So, sweated the veggies, piled it on or in everyone's desired tortilla - corn for the wife, tostada for the MIL, flour for me. Not bad for a last minute job. Served with chilled sangria...T
Pickled turnips still hanging around, huh? If you do them again, try using more sugar. They're usually sweet, tart, and crisp - a nice accompaniment to salty, oily, garlicky Lebanese chicken.
They're tart, but not inordinately so, and crisp. A bit sweet, but not overly so, but I expected that since I purposely used half the sugar suggested by the recipes. They're largely hanging around because the wife & MIL refuse to try them. Apparently they have something against eating purple food! 😃 I've been snacking on a few each night with my pre dinner wine. What I need to do is to try and find a place in the metroplex that makes them, so I can taste the real thing for comparison. T
More chicken leg (and wing!) soup! Working my way through the 3 whole chickens I bought & froze a few weeks ago when they were on sale at Kroger. Similar recipe as before, but there were some navy beans in the pantry, so I added those instead of rice. Not half bad. Filling. T
