How long on the sear? When I've tried that with tri tip my outside gets too crusty, too tough...T

That seems like a long time but the results sure don't lie! Looks like a pretty thick piece though too. I think I've always done mine at higher oven temps. Maybe I'll try it a little lower next time.

Have a bunch of family coming to town for the next week. Big party next weekend for Dad's 80th bday. Might have to plan a big tri-tip meal for one night.

Looks Good. Just needs a half gallon or so of blue cheese dressing to top it off! ;)

It's a small table... no room for feet. :)
That would defeat the purpose of preparing a healthy salad. The lack of any dressing at all is deliberate. ;)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Wow. 80. Major congrats to your pops!

How about a big manly man steak like a prime porterhouse on the grill? Follow it up with a big ol' tub of good vanilla ice cream. Trust me, dad's cardiologist would approve!

Boring tonight. Leftover angel hair pasta with leftover meatballs and sauce...Tll

For the party itself we are going to do something Italian dinner. Lasagna or a couple other entrees with salad and bread depending how many people RSVP. Planning this stuff with my siblings is worse than herding cats but in the end we always pull together and get stuff like this done somehow.

My job is to lead people and to plan/prep the work out in front of them. So waiting till the last minute to plan everything stresses me out. I will have to remember to breathe deep all week and just go with the flow. :) Love 'em all to death though.

Oh, and I'm boring tonight too. Ham sammich from Jimmy John's. :)

Lasagna, can't go wrong with that. It oozes special occasion. And, it's less trouble IMO than comparable dishes like stuffed shells or manicotti. You should be able to do a good bit of prep like salad, garlic bread, boil the lasagna noodles while your sibs get their act together.

I'm the same way, I hate waiting until the last second. I find meal planning, thinking about ingredients, wines/desserts/sides that'll go with the main dish, how I'm gonna do my mise en place, etc. to be as enjoyable as the cooking.

Jimmy John's is the best chain sandwich place, I think. Love their veggie, # 13...T

Steak. Prime strip steaks from Costco. On the grill over charcoal and pecan wood. Tasty! With fresh corn on the cob and beet & goat cheese salad. Washed down with Kirkland Prosecco with frozen peach "ice cubes".

Did the shredded chicken in a crockpot deal.

My parents are off too a wedding. Family friends daughter. Scary thing, they lived with us for a few months while they built their house. I babysat their daughter when she was two and I was 20. Now I feel old! She is a skater with Disney On Ice. Pretty cool gig.

Seemed like a long time to me as well but the thing hit a temp wall like some pork shoulders I've smoked in the past.

That's interesting. Wouldn't have thought that could happen with a relatively (compared to brisket, for example) lean cut of beef...T

Looks great! Makes me wish I'd had steak last night too, instead of giving in to the wife's request for P.F. Chang's! :(
