Spot on. One thing I might add, and I do this, is to turn on the interior light if it is night time so I have increased visibility to the officer. I learned this from a colleague in the Army when I noticed the procedure of turning off headlights and turning on interior lights at checkpoints.:)

Doesn't always get me off a ticket, but I try to pull off somewhere so the cop doesn't have to stand in traffic at my window. More cops are injured by traffic than any other cause.

i've only been pulled over once, but everyone i've talked to says that you should pull over, if it's dark turn on your light, and just sit there with your hands on the steering wheel until the officer comes to your window, when you roll it down. just do as he says, be polite, ask for clarification, say you're sorry, and hope for the best.

Man I don't know about all of you but even getting pulled over for tint gets me going. I once even got purposely pulled over in a planned prank and I was still very nervous. And thats not even before I got handcuffed and put in the back of the car.

All these pointers are good to know, but no way would I ever slow down enough in my mind to figure out what I'm trying to say. Stage fright maybe? :)

What's even more pathetic is that I'm in the process of becoming a reserve officer and I still get edgy around policeman when not in the station. I have a interview/evaluation tomorrow with the Chief, who knows how I'll handle myself in that.

They're just enforcing the laws that we (the citizens of this country) put forth. They're normal people just like you and me. There's 'bad eggs' in every field of work, but every officer that I know personally is awesome.

I usually ask if they can hold my beer while I get my license. Either that or when they ask if I've been drinking because my eyes look bloodshot, I ask them if they've been eating donuts because their eyes look glazed.

Seriously I haven't had the best luck getting out or tickets so I've resorted to having a great radar detector and an even better lawyer.

ding ding ding ding !!!! We have a winner!

This works for me and was what I had been taught growing up. If it doesn't, it wasn't meant to be so you'll need to grow a pair so you can take it like a man. When they cry I put it into the notes along with other minor vios I encounter during the stop.

Just be polite, discreet with the "relative-is-a-cop" tactic and be cool. Sometimes we check to verify the story - other times it's not neccessary.

Things of note from above posts:
    - in my professional opinion, there's no such thing as a quota. In fact, it's illegal. They're called other things, such as "contacts" or "suggestions." Most of us are car guys and all of us were speed demons at one time too - if you represent the WT aspect during the stop we will show our appreciation (hint- slip of paper with a court date), whereas if you represent the honest and decent aspect then we might be able to make considerations.

    - growing up, I was taught that if your window tint is too dark, most police officers will write a ticket for that and choose to overlook the speeding ticket. In most jurisdictions, the tint ticket is a fix-it ticket. It's a gamble, but apparently has paid off for some of you.

    - the presence of a radar detector does add to the likelihood that you'll get a speeding ticket.

    - restroom tactic is unsuccessful.

    - different sized tires has never worked with any troop I know. It could likely be plausible but if the driver suggests it then that shows the driver knew he shoud have compensated for the possible overage. Also shows that the driver is aware of a possible malfunction of a key component in driving - another ticketable offense.
