In late 2010 he parted with this beautiful white McLaren F1, which he was the original owner of. It's now here in the USA. The two MBZ's below are currently being offered - the one on the left is a 1-of-1 CLK LM road car the other a 1-of-25 CLK GTR. >8^) ER Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I find it hard to believe that the F50 GT is quicker than an SP333 around Fiorano, a sports prototype vs a large coupe/gt effectively? Not saying it didn't happen but it does depend on who was driving, tyres and conditions etc.
It's a little bit strange considering the weight of two cars.. Is there any official info or a time table of Fiorano's lap records.?
The F50 GT is not a large coupe or GT. IIRC the F50 was just a 30 kgs heavier than a 333SP. It also produced about 100hp more in the initial set up.
So is this Art's car? Or is it the Japan one? What cars are in the collection that is being sold off??
What if this car would have been campaigned against the McLaren F1 GTR, 911 GT1, Mercedes CLK-LM? We saw the 333 was able to race well against the 911 GT1-98, am I wrong to assume this would have been winning? Makes you wonder why it never raced!
I have no proof of this, but I have always believed that Ferrari knew the car would not be competitive without a lot of additional work and chose not to pursue it to instead maintain focus on F1. It also seems odd to me that F50 GT #001 has been crashed so many times, one of those being on a warm-up lap. I wonder if that is indicative of a basic drivability issue? Greg A
Or could it be that the crash occurred because of the driver? This isn't a street car, so I imagine it'd take some learning. If it went faster than the 333sp around Fiorano and the 333 was able to challenge the 911 GT1-98 (which was faster than the original 911 GT1) I don't see why a professional race driver could pilot this F50 GT1 to race wins barring reliability and unforeseen racing incidents.
Schumacher took the car into the grass at Fiorano and then subsequently signed it . The real reason for the project being stopped is actually multiple reasons. It was not about Ferraris want to focus only on Formula 1, however there was some fear within F1 of Ferrari changing focus to sportcar racing even before the 333sp, there were a couple deals restructured around that time, that secured Ferraris focus on F1. There was also issue of the new car being faster than the 333sp and a few other small reasons.
Stopped whom? There are numerous reports of past racing drivers who refused to drive cars because they were considered to be too dangerous. And they were quite often proven correct when someone else died in the car. Greg A
That was really his fault, not the car. A few ex F1 drivers and current racing drivers have driven the car and said it was a dream to drive.
So this same guy is parting with the MB CLK GTR as well? Anyone on here have any idea how these cars drive?
We can only guess I suppose. Euro-Classics is also selling his CLK GTR and CLK LM so I wouldn't be surprised if the F50 GT is his as well. Wish I had any idea how they drive. Tiff Needell drove the CLK GTR and has a review you can find on youtube. IIRC, it was in icy conditions so I'm not sure how much that will help. I think it's gotta be odd to drive it given it still has 3 pedals, but gear changes are by paddles on the steering wheel. The CLK LM appears to have a center console gear changer from old pics I have of it, but not sure if it has 3 pedals.
Carmel, CA. Here's their website. I have no affiliation with that company btw. http://www.euro-classics.com/
I stumbled onto this article yesterday: http://www.forza-mag.com/issues/114/articles/the-1?page=2 Not surprisingly, I didn't see any mention of the accident. Greg A
