So I mention this because it is SB from Bolgheri. Not your typical SB, has nice weight to it. Just the right amount of minerality & fruit
[QUOAs TE="Steelton Keith, post: 148160156, member: 83649"]Thanks Teg, I do not drink much Cali SB / Chard but I serve only American wines at Thanksgiving.[/QUOTE] As we know it's the drinkers choice!
I like white wines as well as Red... sadly most of the wines I like have gone through the roof. my favorites: Corton Charlemagne - Louis Jadot sadly out of my price point now.... Pulingy Montrachet santeney if you can get Jadot... get them! i see you like Yquem, which I love as well, but also like Hungarian tokaj wines... 5 Puttonous or more...
Image Unavailable, Please Login I decided to open a cheapy stand-by bottle tonight; 2018 Itsas Mendi Txakoli. Getting to the bottom of this case, and soon to order another. Sub $15 and a nice bright acidic white, that plays well with fish or a mixed green summer salad. JK
It’s been a while since I had a bottle of white wine, and taken a pic. Image Unavailable, Please Login A delicious bottle as always, and even better since it was on sale. JK
In my continued pursuit of Grüner: Image Unavailable, Please Login I think it’s pretty representative of the varietal from what I have tasted, but has a really lovely minerality on the nose and tropical fruit on the palate. Not a huge finish, but for $27 it’s a keeper. JK
I thought I’d bump my own thread. Tonight’s bottle, paired with pork chops, German potato salad, and sauerkraut. 2019 Famille Faller Gewurtztraminer. I don’t often buy Alsatian Gewurtz, but this one is lovely. It’s a glass of flowers without being cloyingly sweet. Image Unavailable, Please Login JK
I’m glad if it helps give people ideas of what styles that might be interested in. There were a couple of people in my life who graciously offered knowledge when I had literally none and it makes me happy to be able to pass those favors on in some small way. Cheers! JK
Tonight’s choice: 2020 Dr Burklin-Wolf Riesling Trocken A very nice bottle in the $40 range from the Pfalz. Bone dry, with topical fruit and a whiff of petrol/kero. I’m waiting to try their Grosses Gewächs offering, but based on this one I’m excited. JK Image Unavailable, Please Login
We keep trying them. Tonight’s selection, the 2020 Nikolaihof Wachau Grüner Veltliner. I thought it was nice, but certainly not super complex. Green apple, pear, and bright tropical acid. JK Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just got a couple of bottles with my red shipment. I am excited to try them. I just opened this bottle of Jadot this week. Not a bad choice for $80. As sad as it is that $80 is a “value” burgundy these days. JK Image Unavailable, Please Login
a sign of the times?.....my personal favorites have always been from Olivier Leflaive...and I have watched the prices just keep going up and up
Y'know there are certain dishes a Meursault compliments better than just about any other wine. Jadot for the most part makes very good QPR wines
It’s been a long couple of months running down stuff for my parents, houses, and changing jobs. Still, finally a bottle of Village-level Leflaive. I haven’t bought one in a while, but the 2021 is quite nice. Image Unavailable, Please Login JK
I like whites with distinctive flavors, I’m having them with a shore dinner this weekend in NJ. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Image Unavailable, Please Login Drank this guy for our anniversary dinner. Accompanied Bill Smith's world famous baked stuffed shrimp. Delicious
Came across an Italian wine made with 100% arneis grape. Delicious. I threw the bottle out but will post a photo later; just ordered a case. About $ 18.
A thread bump for the New Year’s Day selection. 2020 Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis Premiere Cru. Image Unavailable, Please Login JK
Oh, Man Jim. Dujac is my all time favorite. Freddie at Le Cirque is totally sold out of his reds and having difficulty finding more. There was one Dujac red on the carte at Picasso. It was $ 1,100 and I did not want to be tempted so I did not even look at vineyard/vintage. You gotta post a tasting note on this one.
You have great taste, and I’m not just saying that because you agree with me. I thought it was a very nice bottle. The nose was definitely citrus and a bit of spice. The citrus notes carried throughout, and I would say it was pleasantly oily on the finish. I’ve heard it described as buttery, but I really didn’t pick up on any malolactic notes. I don’t go through many Dujac wines, but always appreciate them when I do. JK
Another week, another white. 2016 Koehler-Ruprecht Kallstadter Saumagen Reisling Auslese Trocken. A fantasticly complex, dry Riesling, with waxy, petrol overtones and bright fruit. An absolutely ridiculous fine wine bargain around $50. Image Unavailable, Please Login JK
