I bought a 1 GIG HD when they first came out in 1993 or so - $400.

My Sony Vaio someone at work GAVE me - they told me it was broken, junk, they were going to toss it out, I said 'toss it my way'.

I put in a brand-new battery, spent 3 nights uninstalling all the porno and gambling 'free' software her BF loaded, and it works flawlessly.

Maybe not a browser, but back in those days it was a DOS Shell we used to get into pure bulletin board sites.

I remember when I upgraded my modem from a 300 baud to 1200 baud - I was a KING to my friends !

I have two dell laptops both about 4-5 years old. For the time they were top of the line. 40gig 5400RPM hard drives, 64mb graphics, 15inch wuxga monitors, 1.6 and 2.2ghz Pentium 4 processors and 1gig of ram each (266mhz)

Now they're just old and slow. But I must say they've done well by me and are still running well for what they are.

Looking to buy a new machine soon for school (college) either a new dell, alienware, or an acer ferrari.

I actually build/upgrade and service machines (bestbuy) and am A+ certified but still no new machine. Nice one by the way bennet (seen it before-good to see again)

    I do.
    Why?
    It's a Mac :D

    No but really..

I have one desktop dual AMD Athlon XP's @ 1.53ghz, 1gb ram, blah blah. I don't use it anymore except to try linux on it.
I have a Macbook Pro totally loaded up with only 2gb ram and a 100gb hdd which I've filled up already.

Now a question, does anyone know of a good portable hdd? Meaning around 200gb or more and doesn't need a power adapter? Takes power from usb or firewire?

Just curious, what motherboard are you using? I also built my own about 2 years ago and it's still running fine. Thinking of building another one but wanted to see what other motherboards are out there.
