They should absolutely name a supercar after Schumey. I have been thinking this for while now. He is, after, the most successful F1 racer of all time - it would only be fitting by a car company that lives and breathes Formula 1. I'd also like to see a Ferrari Villeneuve..........
That was just a couple championships, any mug can win those (Elton’s done 3 or 4 hasn’t he), the real achievements were the five in a row with a team previously in decline until he and the dream team arrived
Gilles or Jacques? One was a gifted driver who was also an extremely colorful personality, that while beloved by the Tifosi never won a championship. The other is a World Driver’s Championship winning jackass that just needs to shut the hell up.
Is that a serious question? Oh, I don't know.....maybe the one who has a statue of himself outside of the Ferrari factory? The one who was regarded like a son of Enzo's.....?
And that to me has always been part of the puzzle / enigma / quandary (pick your favorite) of #27. The Old Man loved winning above all else, yet somehow the driver that was arguably his favorite was one that never won the big prize.
I think that Gilles Villeneuve reminded the old man of Tazio Nuvolari and he looked upon the Canadian in a semi-nostalgic way.
Gilles should have won at least one prior to his death, and could have won more if he hadn't died. He drove with immense passion, which goes hand in hand with Ferrari's mission. He was incredibly fast, and had big balls. There is a reason why he has the cult following that he does. I love him for everything I wrote above, and he is also a fellow Montrealer.
Agreed. If only. But still there is that “if only”. There were a lot of ‘almost’ drivers that came and went, the recently lost Chris Amon comes to mind, but none capture the hearts and imaginations of the Tifosi quite like Gilles. But, if a car were to be named after him, Championship or no, it would need to be called the Gilles. Can’t have it confused with that mouthy little **** that shares his last name. ( By way of disclosure, my first exposure to F1 was as a young Albertan, who never would have seen the races at all if CBC wasn’t so keen to show a Canadian doing well. So I owe him and his memory that much at least. )
