Anyone have a photo of the infamous wicker-sided 330?
Finally! Someone mentions this car. I saw it five years ago at Fred Petroske's, (and of course he was parting it out). This was the French show car, no? Anyway I have seen a photo but for the life of me couldn't remeber where and when I asked Kerry to search his registry site, nothing came up. Can't wait for the answers. Best, Yale
Much discussed, but I don't think anyone's every been able to come up with either a chassis number or photos. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=465 http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20611 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=134627767
I think you took my post wrong - I wasn't complaining about you starting a new thread on this car. I was only pointing out that, even after all of this time and despite the fact that more than one F-Chatter has seen the car in person, we are still without a s/n or even a single photo.
I think it's great to see some history dredged up. I lived in Rochester, NY for 25 years. I had a small repair shop specializing in Ferrari, FIAT and ALFA. Many people asked me about the car and for every question, there was a bit of folklore thrown in. The car was supposedly delivered new to a professor at the Eastman School of Music, where he used it as an everyday car. It then changed hands a few times in Rochester, finally ending up in the hands of an auto parts dealer. Here's where it gets interesting. In 1976, I needed some machine work done. I went to the shop where the car was alledgedly owned by the (business) owner. I showed him the parts (some simple press work) and he said that he could take care of it, no problem. He asked me what the parts were from and I said "My Ferrari". He practically threw them at me and yelled "I DON'T WORK ON FERRARIS", and went to the back of the shop. I yelled back "but I thought you have a Ferrari". His final words: "GET OUT". A few years later, around 1985, a customer came in and in idle chat, the car came up and he said "Here's another story". Seems like he also knew about the car and went to the owner's house. He parked in the driveway and when the door was opened, he asked to speak to the owner of the Ferrari. He was invited in and while waiting in the foyer, he looked out the window and saw two people out in the driveway, GOING THROUGH HIS CAR!! One was inside, the other had the hood open. When he ran outside, the two ran and disappeared into the back yard. When he went back and knocked on the front door, NO ONE ANSWERED!! OK, there you have two stories, one that happened to me and the other from a very reliable source. So, what is indeed the story of the car as it stands today? Who knows? I never saw the car but apparently many people did, in the 60s. It was, as I was told, the only Ferrari in Rochester at the time. What's its fate? I heard from a few people that it's in a boneyard in upstae NY. True or false? It would be absolutely fascinating to trace the true history of this one-off car. Bob Z.
Rochester, NY? Isn't that where Carle Conway was? Carle had some seriously interesting cars; specifically remember the 412MI. Jeff
I actually go to school in Rochester now so that was a very fascinating read. I can't believe that a professor at the Eastman School had a Ferrari and that it didn't rust into nothingness after just one winter (last year I saw a BMW 3 series coupe that couldn't have been more than 3 years old with rust spots, not to mention the hundreds of cars less than 10 years old with tons of rust). There aren't many interesting cars left up here, I've only seen a few Porsches (there is a Porsche dealer which only had two Boxsters in the showroom last year), a couple of Vipers, and one 1950s Mercedes 190SL.
