I agree, subsections are essential. Without them it is just too much hassel to sort the wheat from the chaff. If you want to see how it can work visit http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/phpForum/index.php . I've chosen a non-real car related forum so that there is not any conflict of interest or self-promotion.

It really can help when you have a very active forum (seems to have gone a bit quite here though recently!)

    Cheers

Is this likely to happen , looks like most people said yes.

Of more concern to me is what's going to bring the regulars back onto the board ? I personally will not be joining up to 3 or 4 other forums in order to stay in touch and try and keep track of news. Seems to me that the situation with Rob/SteveF is still unresolved. I personally think that whilst Rob's position was somewhat offensive that the over-reaction by the UK F-chat community seems equally OTT. I can't work out what folk's think is achieved by staying away ! Hell Rob's probably pleased , less moderating and much less disk storage required for the tons of material ( brekkie pics !! ) regularly posted in the UK forum.

Come on folks lets get back to business.

    regards
    James

I've now voted yes, as the vast majority has. It is the only way that all parties can be kept happy. Allow the OT stuff, but in its own section. Have another section for meets and other events and a third for Ferrari/ car related topics. That should be enough.

This would keep the UK forum clean for owner, sponsors and users alike.

The sooner the better Rob - where are you?

I'm leaving this decision and process up to the current UK mods. I think they want to receive feedback awhile longer. There seems to be overwhelming support for this change. Even if we make it, we can still revert back if it doesn't work like we hope.

    Thanks,
    rob

    Rob,

I'd like to ask that we do it sooner rather than later. It will be far easier for the mods to start moving posts around whilst it is quiet.

The poll result speaks for itself, so give us something good to build on.....

OK, I might be able to implement this tonight or tomorrow. I will put all current threads in Ferrari Discussion to start. I'll do a few basic mass moves for threads with OT or O/T in them. Thanks.

What is the status on this plan ? As the UK is quiet at the moment may be a good time to implement. I don't think we need more than 3 or 4 sections - maybe General Ferrari topic , Off topic, Dealers, Meetings/track days

I think its going to be implemented in a couple of weeks, along with a few other things to kick start the UK section back into life......if you have any thoughts on this I'm sure that Rob and Stig would appreciate some positive ideas

I don't think now is a great time, but once the activity grows a little more it might be good.

Will there still be a demand for all the OT chatter with several of those active users not posting anymore?

Maybe we should table this for awhile, no other regions have multiple forums.

    Thoughts?

    Rob,

The amount of activity was not a caveat to the vote. The result was Yes. It seems starnge to me that you should ask what we want and then when we decide you ignore the result. I appreciate what you are saying but feel that this could be deemed as autocratic behaviour which fuels the feelings of those no longer posting here. If you set up the sub forums people may come back over time.

Just a thought - not an attack :).

OK, after talking with the mod team and several users, adding sub-forums should happen sooner than later, but we need to agree how many and what to call them.

    Thanks,

    So names literally...

    Ferrari Discussion

Are there any other "British" terms you would prefer? Descriptive and short the best, but you can have some fun with the name.

Rob , this may be a way of bringing activity back ! This looks awfully like you asking for an opinion and then deciding to do things your way regardless of what people said.

I would add that I think that a for sale and technical sections might be useful.

I guess the measure would be how often they are used. I know that not many F cars are owner maintained (for reasons of complexity or maintaining value) but there are a few jobs that I dont mind doing. The US arm of F chat does this very well.

    Just my thoughts

Not at all, it is just the current activity level doesn't justify multiple sub-forums. I still wanted to do this, but just wait until activity returned. However, current active users have spoken and want to do the changes now.

We're not creating a stand alone UK community. Just because of the previous activity level we wanted to clean the threads up so the ontopic threads didn't get diluted by the OT fun. Go to FerrariAds.com for ads and Tech Q&A is for the World.

Feels weird; it'll take a bit of getting used to.

Thanks for sorting it out, Rob.
