Every dealer, at some time or another, is going to make an enemy out of a customer or prospect. That gets posted here, gets blown out of proportion, argued about, and when it's over, one bad experience smears the reputation of a good dealer.

Also, much of what gets said about a dealer is rumor. Remember the stolen F50 threads on here? There was a ton of unsubstantiated posting on that.

There's plenty of service guy, independent sales guy and dealer bashing going on here now. If I thought that this would be an unbiased forum that stated facts, instead of supposition, rumor or innuendo then I'd endorse it.

Dave, with all due respect, how is that different from what happens now. Witness threads on BHCC and Fo Washington in recent past. The only difference IMO is that now, the bashing occurs in an unfettered and highly fragemented way across regional and general forums, making objective reviews difficult to obtain (depends who's reading what thread and where they decide to post).

Would it not be better to consolidate different views into a single forum. Detractors and supporters can debate it out, uninformed users posting hearsay can be weeded out, and dealers can have a chance to respond if they so choose.

mauispence's suggestions are very good ones:

I say yes. Afterall, we are an open forum where ideas and opinions freely flow. Good and bad experiences should be shared and discussed, as long as the poster presents from a personal opinion point of view, and thus minimize the slander issue.

I agree - then you take the info for what it is worth. Positive or negative.. Place it in a suscribed section first for a while and see how it goes...

Primarily, a forum would invite considerably more comment, much of which would continue to be of the type we see now. Uninformed or unconfirmed attack on anyone and everyone who sells, fixes, or trades in Ferraris.

I think you'd be asking anyone who had to moderate this stuff to do a thankless job with lots of risk, and no reward. My understanding of internet law is that Roband FerrariChat aren't liable for content posted by others, and WHART could certainly clear that up for us. But, to try and moderate a forum where most everybody would be *****ing about some perceived slight from a dealer, or independent would be a nightmare.

Clearly, many with an axe to grind do here. Often making unsupportable claims that serve only to dirty a reputation unreasonably. Most here will not use the forum to tell stories of great dealer service, or about a mechanic who does fabulous work at cut rates. They're going to tell a tale of woe, which may or may not be supported by the truth.

I just don't think we need an entire forum to do that in.

(disclaimer)Just my $.02 which is undoubtedly flavored by my friendship with folks at Algar, and my belief that they do good work, and are not in the business of ripping customers off or doing shoddy workmanship. And no, I don't work for Algar or any other Ferrari related company.

While in theory it should be great, I have a feeling we're not going to get a very good signal to noise ratio out of it.

Someone new to the Ferrari world is going to post that dealer FoXXX sucks because they wouldn't take a deposit on a new F430 or sell him/her one at sticker.

I think we get the proper coverage of real issues already.

This is true, but the problem with 'search' is that you might stumble onto the grudge thread and miss the 99 other positive ones.

Obviously the dealership forum would have to be moderated. But buying a used Ferrari is downright scary to those of us new to the game, and if you look at a lot of the first time posts they are about exactly this.

From my perspective I consider this "tabled". I'm not for it, but will be open minded to consider it more in the future.
