I am reading John Lamm's book on Ferrari and all the people who worked with him.

There was a short time period where they used 4 cylinder Ferraris in racing because of their advantages in torque and allows more twisting motion in turns.

    I'm pretty sure we'll never see a 4 cylinder Ferrari again. :)

There is at least one owner of a 4 cylinder Ferrari on this forum!

I would love to see a large displacement, four-cylinder Elise-size Ferrari come down the pike.. don't think it'll happen though.

    Fingers are crossed though. :)

Really! Are they Vintage Ferraris, or some kind of newer, custom one's?

Really, in Michigan? If that's the case, I hope they bring them to Concours this summer!

    Chris

EDIT: I just realized that there are 2 Chris's posting in this thread, and you were talking to the other Chris. My bad! :)

Nice link to that blue car build. Thanks CMY. Funny the NW Region FCA just spent Saturday at that Pebble Beach top dog honors car warehouse this weekend. His Alfa was there.

It's very nice that John opens up his collection so frequently. He's a nice guy. Two other interesting collections in the same complex, as well. Gregg has a GTO, pre-war Alfa GP car and some other great Italians...and in between the two F-car owners is Craig, who is a Ford/Lincoln collector. (Also a really nice guy.)

Interestingly, I don't think John has a 750 Monza (to get back to the original 4-cyl question), but it's been a few years since I've been to his garage.

Beyond the low-end torque, the 750 Monza was also built for reliability. Fewer cylinders -- less to go wrong. Beautiful cars, too!

It was nice to Jon's collection again. He doesn't have a 750. He also didn't have 3 or 4 of his great cars there. I've been to Gregg's and Craig's collections as well. Jon was there this weekend and told some of the stories behind a lot of his cars.

Funny the owner of the cars this weekend said that one of his Daytona's in the group wasn't manueverable under 50mph. I can't imagine how tough a 50's version would be.

What made the 121 LM so much worse than the 750 Monza? I just got to the part in the book where Eric McAfee was killed in the 121 LM and what a terrible performing car it was.

This book is a great read by the way (Ferrari, Stories From Those Who Lived the Legend). It's not just a book full of facts like a History textbook, it actually tells very interesting stories from people who worked with Enzo.

    Kare,
Mr. T.sold his Monza after a short period!
Also the owner of the 860 Monza #0602M (ex-Fangio in the 1000 km Nuerburgring 1956) told me about the horrible handling of his car!

    Ciao!

If you mean Christian and Erich Traber and their (former) 0554 M: They bought it on the 20th February 1986 and sold it March 2006. About 20 years of ownership, not exactly a short period, I'd say.
