Was there ever a 288 GTO made or repainted in yellow?

I know the surviving prototype is yellow, but did any of the production cars ever turn up in yellow? Or in black or any non red color?

Just curious, but if you have some pics, please post.

    Good question.

Must be someone who repainted in another color.
I'v already seen a replica 288 GTO in black and I must say its nice.

    Hi! :)
From the "Original Ferrari V8" book that I have all of the 288's and the 6 prototypes "Evoluzione" -> that gave birth to the F40 were in Rosso Corsa...
Although some may have been repainted in another colour than that, red it's is only official body paint! :) And it suits it just fine, doesn't it? ;)

Thanks all and especially Chenrezi, that says it all.

I have seen a rebody in black and the prototype in yellow and must say it looks great in those colors too. Was just wondering.

288 GTO with S/N 47649 was originally delivered in yellow. This car was discussed on the old Ferrarichat forum.

where is it for sale? i seem to remember it being for sale earlier this year. has it never sold? do they want some stupid money for it?

the only 850CSi every done in Dakar Yellow has been for sale in euroland somewhere for the last couple years.

not that i don't want both cars, but (a) it's just paint - a $10K premium is about all you can get for it and (b) i'm not ready to get divorced yet ;).

Quite a few years ago, the early 80s or the late 90s I think, I saw a GTO in Bridgehampton L.I. at the now closed track that was silver. The guy who owned it if mem. serves me correctly was from Mexico. He showed up with three cars, all silver. 1 was a Daytona, 1 a 288 and I think the 3rd one was a 275.

Very cool in yellow I have to say.

What do you guys think if those seats would be red and black (Daytona style) in that yellow GTO? Would that be still cool or over the top or just plain tasteless?

I love the Daytona style seats in a red GTO, but am wondering how they'd look in a yellow one. Silly?

    From the ad:

"It has just 9650km, all of which was undertaken by Ferrari test drivers. The car was completely checked and prepared by Ferrari before they sold it in 1985 and this cars very special provenance can be verified by Ferrari."

So, it seems the car hasn't been driven since 1985!

I'd say it's strictly meant to be a museum piece.

The one in Speedracer's photo, taken at Monza earlier this year is the same car that's for sale from www.denningcars.org

The car is extremely well known in and around Modena, even the licence plate was specially ordered MO 846288, (In Italy there is no such thing as Private or Vanity Plates - You get what your given and that's it !

    Andreas,

All the GTO's I know except 1 have the standard pure Black Leather Daytona seats, The guy with the lurid Black and Orange upholstery wishes it wasn't ! - The plain cars tend to sell for £5,000 - £10,000 more than the brightly coloured version, Personally I think the Giallo version is OK if you like YELLOW, (I don't), But it definately would not be Commendatore's choice !

    Best Regards,

    Steve

Interesting comment, Steve. I thought yellow was indeed Enzo's preferred choice, hence the logo. He only made the cars in red as that was Italy's color back in the early racing days, then it became a tradition. But I always thought a real Ferrari ought to be yellow.

An interesting angle on the colour thing is this wording from the "Exterior and Colours" options catalog (360_esterni_e_colori.pdf which you can download from the owners website). You can have any colour you like apart from Red or Yellow which are special Ferrari colours.

"Ferrari commits itself to develop paints on sample in compliance with its standards of quality and technical feasibility. The chromatic areas of red and yellow are excluded from the possibility of personalisation upon sample, since these are institutional Ferrari colours and therefore cannot be modified".
