A few years ago I went to a ZZ top concert with my father and he told me that the drummer, Frank Beard (who ironically is the only member of the trio without a beard), was an avid car enthusiast, with a particular passion for Ferrari's.

I was wondering if anybody knew which cars Frank owned, as I am under the impression that he does have quite an extensive collection. The only article I was able to find is this one, stating that Frank was selling his GTO replica:

ZZ Top's Frank Beard Selling 1962 Ferrari on ClassyAuto

Any info on any of Frank's Ferrari's would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Frank Beard owns a beautiful 250 GTO replica that is a Spider.
    He owns several other Ferraris.

That's impressive but Pink Floyd's drummer Nick Mason owns a real 250 GTO.

Short article on Frank Beard here:

Amongst many other wonderful cars. Think a change of career is in order.

Ok here goes! Years ago I was in Kenya and met a young Massai who told me about being a spokes person for British Airways in part because he was the son of Massai chiefton. He showed me pictures of himself in full Massai costume with spear and shield etc. promoting the airline including several sitting the the cockpit of a British Airways jet. He told me about meeting the band on flight to Dallas and a member of the band[ probably Frank] asked him to come to a party at the band's house dressed up in his full Massai outfit. Be ready at 6PM at the airport and he[Frank] would pick him up.So here he was all dressed up with spear and shield and the complete Massai warrier outfit waiting for Frank. As he told it he heard this wild engine sound and up came Frank in this racy red Ferrari convertable. In he got in all his finery and sped off in the Ferrari to the party with ZZ Top. From his description of the car I think this one was it. And this IS a true story!!! tongascrew

So the GTO is obviously a fakey doo, but from the article

"The rest of his Ferrari collection consists of originals, but he's obviously got no qualms about modified examples."

So the NART Spider is real??

I have a photo somewhere of my old 633 on a lift in Houston next to Frank's blue 308QV. He's a really nice guy to talk to if you ever have the chance.

That IS the story to beat all stories of FC.
A Massai in full dress, with a spear (somewhere) in an open GTO is just
too much to imagine. Some one in FC community must know Frank. A photo
    exists?

The gentleman coachbuilder who constructed the GTO Convertible had a write-up in Automobile magazine - I believe the issue that had the 355 Debut.

I met ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons out one Sunday while I was in the Fcar. I was sitting at the bar waiting on some people and he strolled in and started talking to me about my car.... had to get a picture of it!

This thread shares our love of great cars and good music. Great photo!! Does anybody have anymore photos of Frank's cars, or possibly cars from any other members of ZZ top?

Dusty Hill and Billy Gibbons are more into Rods.....there's a nice book on the ZZ Top Hot Rods.

Yes, the GTO Spider is obviously a fabrication....not sure it is still in his collection?
Seems like Moorespeed handled it's sale, but I may be mistaken....

I remember meeting Frank Beard when I was a teen. He had his garage open (he lived on Robinson Rd in Quail Valley at the time) and working on his Blue 308QV. I asked if I could look at the car and he said yes. I walked up, started talking to him and said he looked familiar. He said he heard that all the time. I didn't figure out who he was until I saw the Legs video come on MTV a couple of days later. Bumped into him all the time after that and he was really down to Earth Nice Guy. I would love to see him again someday.

Is the GTO convertible the one done by a shop in Wisconsin? Was it Gennadi, or something like that, in Manitowoc?
