I was at NJB today in Westerville Ohio and they had a mondial with a gated shifter but only 2 pedals. I have never seen one before but apparently it was one of the original Mondials that shifted via RPMS etc. Just curious Thanks Chas
That would be the Valeo. Yes, quite rare. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/226987-valeo-registry.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/431440-valeo-production-numbers.html
Some research tells a different story i.e. a fore-runner to the F1 paddle system. However, your reasoning would apply to a Lady's F-40 as well.
no offense intended, just reminds me of the VW auto stick shift. paddle shift is a stretch being no steering wheel gear selections available, nothing wrong with innovation, some work some don't.
I think the model got released to get to a new group of people for who wanted to have a more friendly car. In general they were women In those days the pool of business women was emerging. It would be my first choice, but there are practically nonon here in Europe [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDe5GJef454]Ferrari Mondial Road Test BBC Top Gear Review Classic - 2015 CCTV Car TV HD - YouTube[/ame]
With all due respect, VALEO was incorporated in Lancia vehicles in the early 90's, and assisted in winning back-to-back championships. There was also a one off Ferrari produced in 89 for Gianni Agnelli with VALEO. The VALEO equates to precise, efficient, and controlled shifting. The system works by engaging the clutch when your hand shifts gears via microprocessors, relaying the information in milliseconds, aka a lot faster than your brain and foot. The car is made for spirited driving, and was the predecessor to the F1 cars seen in later years. So, a car made for women? I highly doubt it, but if you ever wanted to buy one and your wife said no; what better way for negotiating would you have than a VALEO equipped Mondial? On that note, good luck finding one, and if you do, be sure so drive it and give a follow up review on how feminine it feels to drive.
99.9% sure it's a Cab. There were only 43 US spec t Coupes made, all in 1989. The Valeo Mondials were 1992 and 1993 model years. Here's some info from another thread (numbers are total/global production): Mondial t Coupe Production started: 1988. Production ended: 1993. Total production: 858, 45 RHD (3 Valeo). Mondial t Cabriolet Production started: 1989. Production ended: 1993. Total production: 1,017, 51 RHD (5 Valeo). . Image Unavailable, Please Login
True, and no accuracy in the numbers either. Hank mentioned about 40 or so (from the Matthias Urban book). But here are three Valeo t Coupes, all RHD: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/139821968-post14.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/226685-top-gear-mondial-t-video.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/267201-100-000-km-mondial-t-valeo.html
Compiled from the official Ferrari Serial Number Manual 1947 - 2007. I believe 28 models out of over 5000 built qualifies it as rare. Cheers, Greg Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
