On Tuesday we did about 200 kms and on Wednesday about 300 kms. Then on Friday from Florence via Futa and Raticosa passes to Fiorano and Maranello. One car had a battery issue, otherwise no major problems happened.. Most 250 GTO owners had their own support team for their car and the factory and Ferrari Classiche also provided excellent support, which also included three GTC4 Lussos in the convoy. Marcel Massini
Here's a pic taken in Scarperia (Mugello) Wednesday late afternoon. Not all of the 18 participating GTO's had arrived yet by the time of the photo. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
Marcel, good to know that most of the owners had their own support team on hand, furthermore the chaps from Ferrari Classiche etc., etc. I hope that the whole armada were also watched via satelite, all hospitals nearbuy the route changed to kingsise beds and the Italian Army was ready to protect all esteemed owners with their tanks incase some of them had to pee when on route! What a fuzz.....
Next time they're welcome to hold the GTO tour in our country! Imagine living in a village like that, turning a corner and seeing all these GTOs lined up!
I think this was the only stop that was actually known by the public...There were people there bringing their Pink Floyd albums to be signed, they were certainly not there by chance. The cashier in the alimentari and her customer had a conversation about how to pronounce "Mason" properly...
3809GT, sold in 2016, appeared at this event with a new front. Fortunately much more accurate with the original. Other details have changed. Who did the work? is the car now Classiche certified ?
H Having once been left alone in Corleone ( Sicily) with a pretty expensive car ( Alfa Romeo for that matter) after I lost contact with the Bamfords ( Lord and Lady) whom I was following as I did not have a co driver, I am telling you, in those circumstances you prefer to be watched and followed by the right people. In Tour Auto we ( Andreas and me) left the 250 LM on the side of the road to get some gasoline ,, and we were relieved the car was still there when we came back half an hour later,,,of course in principle you can do nothing with those cars, still there are people stealing un sellable paintings! So may be Ferrari is overdoing it, but I remember of at least 2 cars being stolen after MM and to by knowledge we still have not heard of our German friend stolen 250 GTE.
Etienne 3809 GT was sold mid-2016 to the new Swiss owner. Yes, the car is factory certified. That was part of the deal. Work was done by Ferrari Classiche and their subcontractors. Marcel Massini
Those two Ferraris were stolen AFTER the actual event had ended. One was 0314 M (28 May 2000) and the other 0636 MDTR (9 June 1997), both from German owners. I found 0314 M seven years later, 8 March 2007, in Besenzone, Piacenza, Northern Italy, totally dismantled in a warehouse full of scrap, and 0636 MDTR has re-appeared earlier this year, after 20 years of hiding. Just for information, the stolen 250 GTE thread is here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/stolen-250gte.457587/ And what is left of #0636MDTR here : http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/500-testarossa-0636mdtr.556891/
What will come next? I think a modern electric driveline would be a brilliant upgrade for such a long tour, maybe they'll accept BMW as a sponsor next time!
I was looking to the history of the GTO tours. It seems that only one car did all of them. 3757GT with the same owner for all tours : Nick Mason !! And only one car never did the GTO tour : 3987GT (Ralph Lauren's car)
You are right Marcel, those thieves were kind of gentlemen, allowing the owners to use their cars for the full event, so at least they had some good memories!! I guess GTO owners don't let their cars outside Domus when they are finished! But as we heard, even in a trailer it is not safe!
Thanks Michael ! And also thanks to Marcel: without his very valuable help, it would have been very difficult to produce all these photos ...
What a great event! Don't regret anything. http://www.photos-automobiles.com/evenements/291-gto-tour.html
"#3809GT - "MO78595" - Red with white stripe - Unknown, Europe (anyone knows?)".... Ernesto Bertarelli, CH. Maybe 45$ in July 2016
Event's coverage from Arthomobiles. Great pictures and feature as always! http://www.arthomobiles.fr/GTO%20Tour%2055/gtotourd1.htm
That's the first part of the event's coverage. Will be followed by part two and part three in a few days.
