I think there is a thread on the Auto mode. My car seems to like 1st and 7th. All the other gears seem to only to pad out the sequence as with the exception of a brief appearance of 5th, the others never seem to show up on the gear selection indicator. The general opinion was that it was for emissions.
Now the weather has started to warm up and the windows are open I am hearing a slight screech intermittently that I assume would be the brakes? Not when braking obviously...
after further inspection dealer told me that it is the fuel pump that makes that noise and must be replaced. they now wait the green light from the factory to proceed. hope it will be fixed permanently in a proper way...
I'm on my second 488 and NO problems at all. No rattles, squeaks, nothing. They're very well put together rockets.
I think that there is a sw update for that right now at the oem dealer! Go and ask ! And tell us please ...
I have seen multiple 488 instrumentsclusters, having one screen not working, been sent to the factory. Were back in one week ...
Took delivery on December 20, 2016 and immediately noticed a major problem. Appears that I must get out of the car and park in the garage. Would seriously think that Ferrari would rectify this problem. Have driven practically every other car imaginable including ownership of a F430 Spider and Cal T but this car is in a league by itself.
Mine has 3500 miles on it. It leaks a little coolant from the engine. (puddle under the car) BUT nobody else has complained about it so I think it's just mine. That is my only complaint. The car gets 3.89 MPG on the track. It goes through 18.5 gallons in 35 minutes.
I had this issue mentioned in another thread, engine refusing to stop: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/458-italia-488/549477-ferrari-488-gtb-spa.html Corrected (allegedly) by an update of the steering wheel ECU (!).
Mine needed a software update but that it. I have had mine a little over a year. The most effortlessly fast car I have driven.
Anyone experience a "rattle" sound from the engine compartment when in auto mode? I was driving the car in Race yesterday and as I entered my development I switched to auto. As I was slowing down to enter my driveway I heard a "rattle" in the engine area. I switched to wet mode (so I could hear the engine over the exhaust) and drove it around in auto to see if the rattle would continue. I heard it a couple of times but mainly as I slowed to enter the driveway again.
If the cam is not coming on it will only get worse its a cable issue I had the same thing. I also get those random flashes but they go away.
We all know that the 488 is a big improvement over the 458 dynamically. But in terms of build quality and overall engineering, would you say that the current generation F-cars has improved a lot over the previous generation (Cali, 458, F12), etc? I’m just thinking of say Porsche wherein I feel that the 991 is such a big leap over say 997’s just looking at the interior materials used.
After intensive work on track in hot weather, it happens the engine does not stop when pushing the start/stop button - the dashboard switches off but the engine keeps on running (it can actually only been switched off after a while...)
I have 02/2017 488 GTB, so long no problems , park sensor defect warning, after restarting, gone. Only not so happy with Auto mode, even in race mode car looks to switch in 7 th gear asap. Is gearbox oil warm, you here ratte of gearwheels, that is at all cars so, at about 1000 rpm and 7 th gear. Nobody would shift at 45 kph in 7 th gear, but Auto mode does, in race mode is this nonsense, ok fuel saving. Auto mode of 720 S or 991 turbo S much better, so I only drive in manual mode. I asked dealer if there is a software update for early rev limiter, but nothing exists. Only in LC Mode you see 7750 rpm as maximum, in manual mode comes rev limiter between 7400–7600 rpm. I guess Ferrari had doubts of durability with steel piston rods and reduced max. revs. Pista now titanium rods, homologation was 670 PS at 8000 rpm, but then Ferrari reduced rpm. Besides this issues a very good car and overall I am satisfied. Oil consumption so 0.2 – 0.3 l /1000 km, but I use mainly full engine power and higher revs .
Here max revs, video from yesterday of my 488 GTB, revs in LC mode higher, up to 7800 rpm. In manual rev limiter comes at switching point of auto mode, from 4th to 5 th only 7400 rpm. I think Ferrari has increased in LC mode rev limiter for good 0–200 kph times , in manual or auto mode 100 kph – 200 kph time is about 0.3 s worse as also is shift necessary at 194 kph (GPS) from 5 th in 6 th gear https://splice.gopro.com/v?id=nw99ba
