As others have said Replace both I bought mine at AW Italian Those bolts are tough to get out but all do able
Thanks all. I’ll refer to the links Ernie posted earlier to replace. Looks like I have a project. [emoji16] Vince FerrariChat.com mobile app
Once you get the wheel bearing off the axle flange check the condition of the flange. One of my flanges had signs of wear, so I replaced it with a good used part.
Will do. Thanks Ernie. I may have a few questions once I dive in. Looks like I may take on the bearing, replace Boot, not mentioned before but repack the flywheel with grease and findout why Air always blows out of the footwell(actuator issue?) along with the climate control Power going off every once in a while(loose connector). Thanks again!
Are there any posts on removing and replacing the bearings from the hub? I could not find any Vince FerrariChat.com mobile app
Not that I know of for the early 348s, and unfortunately I didn't take any pictures when I replaced mine. I would try using a split bearing puller to get the bearing off. Once you have it out it's pretty self explanatory. Also, this is your chance to help out the next owner that may need to deal with the same thing. So, take a bunch of pictures and turn this into a DIY thread.
I split the hub assembly on a 355 version to take a look at the bearing, the bearing carrier is actually also the bearing race on those, and it is this that wears out rather than the bearings, we tried to match up the bearing part anyway but no joy, so hopefully yours is the earlier type. In time I can see someone machining out the hubs on the 355 to take a normal bearing instead, and offering them for sale on an exchange basis as the cost of the complete assembly is huge!
I've got one apart - in my case, the bearing grease was toast. The races actually look good. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Surprised someone like Hill engineering has not come up with a solution, they do seem to be a weak point on the 355
Just now getting to this. Here is the link that should take you to Ernie’s thread and directly to post 231 https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/index.php?posts/142946211/ Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
So I’ve finally gotten started on pulling the hub ( well first doing the CV Boots on opposite side). And I have a couple questions while looking at the hub on the car. How do you remove the emergency brake cable from the hub and then the other hose coming around the the front side( not sure what it is but when I remove the screw the hose is still attached). Pics below Thanks! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Vince FerrariChat.com mobile app
The e brake you have to pull your rotors off and unhook it from the other side, the wire with the 10mm bolt should be your abs pick up. Remove the bolt and the sensor should slide out of the hole.
The ABS sensor is longish and needs to be wiggled out and it will come out. Take good pictures of the cable attachment to the rotors before you discombobulate it. I guarantee you won't remember how it goes back together.
As the other guys have said, 1) You need to remove the rotor to gain access to the the parking brake mechanism. A quick search of the archives yielded these threads on the subject. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/348-parking-brake-adjustment.167643/ https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/how-to-adjust-the-handbrake-on-the-f355.62780/ http://www.clubscuderia.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?45388-348-DIY-quot-Restoration-quot&p=705333#post705333 2) As Mitch said, you need to wiggle out the brake sensor.
Thanks Ernie. Will take a look. Also, I noticed that some 348’s have an axle nut that has to be removed allowing you to remove the half shaft. Mine does not have one. I’m going to be removing the shaft tonight and am thinking the shaft must be held on by bolts on the inner side of the wheel hub. You know what, hold on a second. If I remember correctly (it's been many, many years since I did the job) I pulled the CV joint out of the axle flange. The CV joint should slide back and forth some. I think I got a firm hold of the axle shaft then pushed it out of the flange. (IIRC) After I took the axle shaft out I then had access to the ring nut holding the the wheel flange to the axle flange. But I took apart the parking break guts first. I think I then remove the entire wheel hub before I remove the ring nut, with the hub completely off the a-arms and out of the car.
The early and late 348 have completely different wheel bearing setups that’s why you see the axle nut on some and not the other. The ones with the sealed bearing have the axle nut that you can see on the outside.
