I will add, that I don't think that Fchat will lose members or interest if this step is taken. The reason I say this, is because I don't think an Owners Only Forum would be used that much.

I'm not an owner (yet) and I voted no.

I agree with Wayne re: a well worded title and or question may be the answer to your concerns.

Also, as someone who is gathering information in preparation for becoming a future caretaker of a Ferrari or two, I would like to be able to ask for clarification of a point within a thread, or ask another closely-related question in any thread, without having to start a new thread in another section entirely.

No, IMO this smacks of elitism. What will it really achieve aside from potentially alienating non Ferrari owning members?
    EDIT:
Forgot to add, we already have an owners section. It is the official Ferrari Owners forum, how successful is that?

I voted yes, but I am uncertain. Owning a vehicle doesn't make you more knowledgeable then the next guy. Then you have to get proof of ownership.

What I do if I am questioning a posters credibility or knowledge on something I look to see their profile, that usually says what vehicle they own.

IMO the best thing to do is not let people set up accounts without filling out the profile in full. So just change the registration page to not proceed until all fields are filled out.

I happen to know a really good Ferrari mechanic, but he does not own a Ferrari. Therefore he would not be able to post his opinion on a Ferrari problem that someone may have, in this section. I do not think that serves the best interests of the community. Originally, I thought this might be a good idea, but the more I consider it the more I think it is not, thus I vote no.

    This thread is ridiculous.

What's implied is, you have to be an F-car owner to know anything about F-cars!

And why should anyone have to prove anything?!

    You talk like a schoolgirl.

I own several; but I'll never lower myself to trying to prove it.

The 'starter' of this thread is being rather snobbish; impressed more with the image rather than the car.

    JMO!

Lawwdog, you should be ashamed of yourself.......

I voted no. A forum for owners only already exists at www.owners.ferrari.com and its barely used.

Too many potential owners here that are trying to see if Ferrari ownership is for them and too many that have moved on to different cars for various reasons.

If you go down that path, are we going to have another forum for people that own multiple Ferraris too?

Keep it as is, everyone is still having fun.

Voted "No"... I really find the interaction and information sharing is so important between owners and non-owners....how will non-owners ever get the knowledge and courage to "take the plunge" without participating in this forum? This not some "secret society".... :(

You have the right to your opinion as off base as it is but I'm not lowering myself to your idiotic level...

I own several as well and you lowered yourself by your response !!!!!!!!

Trash talk from TRASH !!!! I'll accept your apology when you recognise your quick judgement on a realistic question.

I voted Yes. I think its a great idea. I think that it will not be used very much and will take nothing away from the forums that are already here. Do people think that the subscribed forums take away from the rest of the site? What about the moderators forums? I think it will give some of the lurkers that are on the site that do not wish to be revealed, a chance to open up a little more about their personal lives, as I do think happens even in the subscribed forums. I think it should be handled just like the subscribed forums are, meaning, if you can't access it, you would never know it is there. I think true owners can EASILY identify themselves through previous personal interactions, or for the hard cases....there's always Carbon! I think that the in the owners forum, there should be votes to have certain 'non-owners' brought in...just as this site has 'honorary's. These would be guys that don't own a Ferrari, but work on them, or previous owners that can be proven, etc. etc... I think anyone that thinks that the main areas of Ferrarichat would not be used or would lose value are sincerely mistaken and I propose these questions to you...

Would an owner get a better answer about a Technical question in a Subscribed Forum or in the Tech section?

Would an owner get a better answer about his 360 in a section that very few people can see or in the Modern Cars Section, where all the 360 junkies go?

I would rather a more subtle approach like having a 'hidden' owners forum then a BIG RED TAG on your profile name that screams "LOOK AT ME! I OWN A FERRARI!"...I think THAT is where you get into Elitism.

    Respectfully, and IMVHO of course...

    Guys..... Gals....

    Calm down.

There is no need to get upset at Mario for raising a question. Just state your opinion. It will be valued more if hostility isn't added to the mix.

I truly believe that this is over blown. If this section was added tomorrow I doubt most owners would use it much.

It might just be an area where people might be able to relate to an issue a little better because they have "walked in your shoes".

Like, for example, a thread : "I can't believe what happened at the dealership today"

Maybe you don't want to post a thread like this on an open thread because you don't want to give a bad impression of the dealership or the brand.

We all saw the sad post about a new 355, that got rear-ended by a drunk kid.

To get everyone to read it, and help out.... the thread was posted on five sections of F-chat.

Be ready to post your most important questions in 6 sections :)

And why can't such threads continue to be posted in Subscriber Forums, which as I have said, are almost exclusively populated by owners or the otherwise extremely knowledgable.

Nobody, including the original poster, has answered my question as to why he cannot post his question about 355 doors in the subscribed section so that, heaven forbid, an ignorant newcomer cannot respond to his thread. Then again, given his difficulty with English prose, maybe he didn't understand the question.

    Central points for the illiterate:

    1. Non-owners have something to contribute to owners. I know numerous non-owners on this site who know more about Ferrari the marque and Ferraris the cars than the vast majority of owners on the site ever will.

    2. Owners have something to contribute to non-owners. I don't know how this point could be any clearer. When interesting discussions are in a separate area, people hoping to learn cannot, which is what this site is all about.

    Eric,

Thanks for bringing this to light. This thread is heating up already with personal attacks and I don't want this.

If this continues I will e-mail Rob to pull it..... I already took an off-base flame and personal attack from DARROLS whom I never met.

P.S. Thankfully this board has allowed me to meet many people who I enjoy both owner and non-owner. Too bad things get out of hand so easily :(
