my car has never had a radio installed. i dont think there are any speakers in the door either, it does have a power antenna though, which looks original, and is not hooked up to anything.

how many of the 308 series cars still have the block off plates?

if you were a buyer, would you prefer a car this original, or would you want to have modern stereo already in the car?

i would do a poll, but i cannot get the option to work.

    anyway, pics:

I'd wager they are pretty rare, although simple enough to replicate....odd about the antenna but the factory console switches etc. would have to be there, so makes sense in an Italian way..

    Very nice looking car, Micheal.....

I actually want to get or make that block off plate and remove the stereo that I've NEVER used! I might put a little chrome horsie or something Ferrari on it though!

The early 308s the horse is on the console, and you see in Micheal's pics it migrates to the ashtray lid in the later examples....

    There's your first order carreaper....:D

thanks for the reply Bigtex, i am sorry to "spam" the board with so many of my threads, but i am new to QV's, and this is my 5th 308! i will get another carb car (gt4) and have a few nice keepers for a change.

some on here are very much concurs folks, while i have always been a " just drive it " guy. i will not make many changes to the car, so as to preserve it.
however, given some of the "nerdy" debates we have had on here, i can now understand why some folks are so passionate to keep these cars as original and true as possible.

    :)

It's really a great effort..now that I am single have the time and money to start back on mine...body damage, missing parts, I am going to repaint #22641 and remove later rear wing and black louvers..fabbing a lot of parts or finding them is a big part of the effort...

    It all adds up..

I'm really leaning toward stripping the red car, as it's a shade of blue underneath, leaving me light blue and dark blue...

On a postive note I have picked up a Beer Sponsor...in racing, I guess I have "arrived"! LOL!

IMO the QV is a very nice engine....interesting project, to upgrade to individual throttle bodies like our Colorado chatter!

Probably best left as is though, as you say......

its an 84 i guess, but i am not sure of the month of manufacture. its a euro and they dont have the plate in the drivers door. mine does have a tire pressure / size plate under the glass on the drivers side b pillar panel. not sure if that is correct or not either.

    i love these euro cars!

    Michael,

Wade told me that it is an 83 but when federalized was titled as an 84.

i agree, i spoke to Wade early on. it will help to know the build month, but no one seems to know. Carbon (NNO) is well connected
and had no data on the car at all.

the car was fun on the way home, i will fix the shift knob, but i still have my old Hill Engineering polished one from my other 4 308's, so it will go on there when i have time to put it on. its a simple on off, so it wont affect the car, as i dont sell them with it on. i have had the same grille horse on 3 of the 5 cars, and this car already had a grill horse on the front. i know its not correct, but i do like it.

the car is super quiet ( no carb noise) , although the muffler has a broken internal baffle, so i am not going to drive it until i can get it to a shop. i am going with 1 or 2 Magnaflows on the car. the tires are in better shape than i thought they would be , but they are 10 years old, and dangerous. i am going to install Compomotive 288 GTO style wheels in 17's, and keep the factory wheels / tires.

i looked forever to find a EURO QV GTB. i actually passed on the car once, but the only other car i found was red, and i dislike red cars. so blue was the winner. to be honest, i really wanted a yellow QV GTB euro or USA spec. but this one is nice.

price depends on where you live. i can register a euro car here, and as a plus, i have the DOT, EPA and Customs papers and releases for this car.

some States will not allow a euro vin car at all, so the euro cars suffer compare to the bread and butter red / tan GTS USA spec cars. $39k will buy a nice QV all day. GTB"s seem to be a bit rare, and i wanted a non red car, as there are a ton on red QV's for ale, with and without high miles.

Too funny - the Sony radio that was in my car when I bought it stopped working after about two months of ownership. Eventually I couldn't take it and ripped it out thinking I could find a radio blank fairly easily. WRONG! Spoke with Bill Pollard on the topic, and he said back in the 80's and early 90's there were more of them around than you could imagine. Said he wishes he had bought/saved everyone that he came across back then because now everyone wants one and there don't seem to be any available.

After more than four years with 'a gapping hole' in my dash, I finally gave up this week and bought an Alpine iDA-X100 (Thanks for the info Robb!) to fill the void. Time will tell as to whether it gets turned on any time other than when the gf is in the car, but at least the 'gapping hole' is no longer there.

On a side note, I fully expect that I will come across a radio blank now that there is no hole in my dash....

If I didn't want a radio I might move the A/C vents into that location. I have recently seen a picture posted here (or linked to) of a car that had the A/C vents where the radio is normally installed. I commented on it and there was at least one response from someone else that theirs is that way also.

I just removed the block off plate on my Red 77GTB last fall. Having a spare radio laying around the garage I thought I would install it prior to a long tour event. With the OE speakers in the doors only one can listen to it while parked but that is about it. Never had a radio prior to my install. My White 77GTB on the other hand had the Master Butcher sound system installer run rampant throughout the car and will take many long hours to reverse.

I'm sure that I can make a plate, or a couple if you guys want one. My car was also attacked by the PO stereo butcher, so around the Alpine there are some rips in the black vinyl, which the plate will hide. Worst part is the door panels where he installed round speakers and destroyed behind the covers. If I do purchase new door panels, does that restore the original speaker opening? Is there a way I could restore it without replacing my original door panels, which are in fine condition, except for the speaker area? I'll be away for a week, returning Sept 11th, and will chime in then! Ciao!

I think a modern radio in a 308 always looks at odds. I'd much prefer the blanking plate to some horrible CD/Mp3/tuner with a million little buttons. Also, a modern unit usually means a big gash has been cut in the dash as they won't fit in the space originally intended for the period '2-post' radio.

You have to saw the backplate for a modern player chassis but it does indeed "fit".....I installed an "obsolete" Blaupunkt for $50.

It was an AM/FM/Cd only player...it has a detachable face so you can lose that "jukebox" look when you park it at night......I agree a flip out nav screen might be a little over the top, but I got tired of slapping the dash to free up a jammed cassette! LOL!

That's what I mean. You have to cut chunks out of the fibreglass ... with a saw. The very idea!

    A POWER sawzall!

He was careful as I hovered over him threatening with a hammer, I think he only knicked the dash vinyl once.....LOL!

My other two cars are unmolested with period cassettes!

I actually have some Allman Brothers, Little Feat and Stevie Ray Vaughan cassettes from the car's period, but when the tape breaks, out the window into the trash they go......TRuck Stops here still have a rack usually heavy on the Johnny Cash and Dixie Chicks....:D :D :D
