I came across this Jaguar XJ13 at auction. http://www.redbaronsantiques.com/av1822.htm At first, I thougth that it was the original Jaguar prototype for sale, (which would be amazing.) After reading the description, it looks like the car is a recreation. Can't really tell from the description how the car is put together, (what suspension, engine, etc.) I've always thought that the XJ13 prototype was the coolest car ever made. I'm guessing that this recreation is the closest any individual will ever get to owning an XJ13. It will be interesting to see how much the car sells for. I'd love to see Jaguar do a modern XJ13, similar to the Ford GT project. It's such a beautiful design, and just tragic that only a single one was ever built.
I remember Tiff Needel test driving something similar about 10 years ago, the company offered it as a hard or open top
XJ-13 was featured on Victory by Design with some very good video and audio of the car. For a classic Jag, the 13 has very stunning lines. (With 50 copies floating around the world somwhere, the XJR-15 would be fun to own! "is that a Panoz? Noble? Koenig?" "no, it's a Jaguar")
It was crashed, but not destroyed. It's been fixed and the original sits in a museum in England. (I saw it driven on the TV show, Victory by Design.)
The car shown is a Predator built car from Florida..one of three tube frame cars built. The original is a monocoque chassied car and still survives and is owned by Jaguar...there is a feature in this months Octane.... check out http://www.sportscarfactory.com/ and its Manufactured in the USA ....
It was crashed back in a '60 by Jag test driver Norman Devis and then rebuilt ! This year we made a restoration of this car ! I was helping guys with exhaust pipes and rear axle ! Car is located in Coventry and you can read about it in Octane magazine from the last month ! Its value is similar to Ferrari 250 GTO. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135508645&postcount=19 Reg Tad Car before restoration few months back : Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually the car is priceless. Jaguar was offered 7M pounds but turned it down. This car is phenominal.
As far as I was aware, the original was crashed to such a level that much of it had to be rebuilt.... I would say it is akin to 0846 in the respect of new/original.
Has anyone heard the results from the auction? I'm very curious to see if it sold and if they got anything close to what they thought it would.
I never thought of that before, but BRILLIANT idea - if only they would do it! You mean like this one: http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_search.asp?searchform=&modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&photo=1&state=none&sort=&make=JAGUAR&min_pr=100000&source=0&model=ANY&max_pr=&agerange=&mileage=&miles=1500&postcode=n1+1lp&ukcarsearch_full.x=62&ukcarsearch_full.y=12
They could have, but what for? At the end of 66, the FIA had decided a limit of 3L for prototypes or 5L for 50-unit sportscars (later 25) from the 68 season. The XJ13 wouldn't have qualified in any of these categories. Remember, Ford, Chaparral & Ferrari pulled out of sportscars end of 67 for these reasons.
Here is the listing result for the auction. Vintage and one-of-a-kind automobiles are practically synonymous with a Red Barons sale, and this one had some beauties. Taking the checkered flag for top lot honors was a 1966 Jaguar XJ13 concept car, only seven of which were built (and only two of those exist; the others were destroyed in crashes). This one sped off for $253,000. This was taken from: http://www.news-antique.com/?id=781989 Talk about a scam job they did on the buyer. Made it look like an original car when only one ever existed and that one is safe and secure at the Jaguar Museum. That person bought a fiberglas replica and in my mind over paid. The aluminum bodied replicas of the XJ13 only bring $200,000 at most.
This price is crazy. Paul made a nice car, but I can't believe that the buyer knew what he was doing. What is amazing is that unless a shill was employed, someone else bid it up to this amount. I can see how there would be one person with that kind of money who was enamored beyond reason, but for there to be two or more, that is surprising. This really confirms my decision not to go to the auction.
Thanks, but I just got an 2005 M3 convertible and have to start phase 1 of my boat house rebuild, so I no longer have the time or the money for this project. I would like to build one of these replica XJ13's some day as they are very cool. Maybe you ought to buy the Predator, put it together and sell it at an auction and make a fortune. If the other bidder was not a shill, you still have one more crazy guy out there ready to buy one. I can see the ad now. "Long lost and most sought after third XJ13 found and available to the discriminating buyer"
we had a repro XJ13 at the Classic Adelaide last week... totally sexual! http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=136233565#post136233565 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow, that is a nice one. I can see how you lust after it. If you are spending the big bucks, that is the one to get. Looks to be aluminum bodied and the angled velocity stacks are unique and like the original. I heard there was a replica around, I thought in Europe, that had an original XJ13 motor. Would this be the car or are there more than one with original motors?
