Dear Ferraristi, Could someone please post a pix of how the accelerator cable is routed up the engine and where it crosses over to the top. Also, I want to pressure test the coolant system before I put upper intakes back...better to find a leak while everything else is apart. Can someone tell me what pressure I should pump up the system to look for leaks on the new hoses and elbow casting gaskets. I have a brand new Craftsman coolant testing unit just waiting to be used. Thanks Shamile Freeze..Miami Vice !
Shamile, the pressure should be stamped on the coolant tank cap, I cant remember what it is now but if I go into the garage I will take a look at mine. I have loads of photos of the cable route but they are stored on my iMac in the office. Later today I will post up a picture. Hope you are not in a rush. Seeing as its 9 a.m. here I guess Florida time is about 4 so you will just be going to bed (with a bit of luck ) P
Here you go Shamile, some from the stripdown and some from the rebuild. In all the shots the throttle cable is represented by the clear plastic "fishtank " hose P . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dear Ferraristi, Phil...ya da man! Thanks. Funny though...that's the way my cable is routed now.....and it has a kink in it...hmmm I thought the pressure on the cap was the max pressure....not operating pressure. I asked this question around 3am as I JUST got back from Miami...no, not fun stuff...business. My company is doing a mid level project with the Miami Transit Authority....I'll be back there out Mon-Wed. If anyone knows the operating pressure...please post. I need to do this test before I put the upper intakes back. ....much easier to turn a clamp screw BEFORE it's all put back together... Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice !
Hi Shamile, I am certainly not an expert but what says the coolant cap on the reservoir; it's a safety value for sure.... Don't go over that anyway.... (Please show us pics afterwards of how you tested this...). Good-luck ! Gr from Mel in NL(Europe)
Shamile, I know that you dont want to go over the max pressure BUT, the system should hold at max pressure otherwise if there was a leak you would not know about it until too late. If you feel apprehensive, go for 90% pressure and pause for 30 minutes. This should give you enough time to check everywhere. HTH P
My WSM states a max pressure of 0.9 bar which is 13 to 14 psi. Let us know how you do the test Shamile. I will be doing a test on mine in a couple of weeks and some help / advice is alway appreciated. P
Good Man P........You may have just pointed out to me why I have ALWAYS had a screwed up accelerator pedal "feel"!! My engine has not had that highlighted bracket/guide/grommet since before I got the car. It is even missing in all the previous owners pix that I have on file too.......You may have solved the "mystery'!! Thanks! Sticky cable Me Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dear Ferraristi, You know, after posting, I was thinking about it and you would want the system to hold the max pressure of the cap. My OEM cap says 0.9 bar as well. I thought it was supposed to hold pressure for 24 hrs. What do the techs use as a rule of thumb? It will be added to the refurbish thread....as you would need to do this as part of this project. Bawhahaha....I just thought that was the "British version" I feel they're really aren't enough cable guides...still too much room for the cable to move around. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
That cable guide is important if you dont want your throttle "managed" by the alternator belt. INSTANT full throttle P
Abit like holding 3000rpm in second gear and flooring the throttle-god i love these cars!!!! I do this when taking passengers and their reaction is always priceless-ha ha !! Clive AKA tr boy
Un-F**king believable................ This part from Ferrari...the rapist...... Cable supporting bracket Part # 124220........ COSTS..............$213.61...... Pinching myself Me Image Unavailable, Please Login
Try Here , not so expensive but ... http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partsListing.asp?M=1&Mo=624&A=1&B=35132&S=&ID4=1427456
Its just a small bracket that you could make very easily. Alternatively go to your local ford dealer and see if they have anything like, $5 I bet. P
Still far too expensive there in UK ... You can make that yourself for the cost of no more than $ 2,00 I am sure ! $ 1,00 for this iron piece and $ 1,00 for this little universal rubber bit !
At $200+ I decided that the day before Valentines Day would be partially spent fabbing an accelerator cable "routing" bracket. Here it is, as told by pictures and 30 minutes of labor (includes lifting beers to lips)...........It took longer for the paint to dry than it took to "make" it!!! 37 cent rubber grommet, 27 cent washer, both from Agway, 1-1/2" piece X 1/2" X 1/8th" steel plate, 3 minutes of welding, 5 minutes of smoothing/shaping/grinding and 2 minutes to paint.......and then 2 beers and 20 minutes of wait time to dry......Presto!!! Total costs............w/electricity & mig wire included...........98 cents!!! I have pix to prove it Man!! Thats because it is not cad plated, it is actually solid gold. Thats funny. Makes you wonder how they come up with those prices.
