I've just posted my 1983 QV GTS street and track car if anyone is interested. Great car in great shape. -Paul
It's really a great car... Just in time for the FCA National in Savannah, GA. Perfect for the track events.
I will have the car and trailer at the Pocono Manor Sunday May 29th for the Celebration of Speed and Design show. Hope to see you there. -Paul
I should have mentioned that I have the basic components for both a single and dual turbo setups for the car including new mappings for the Electromotive TEC3 system. Should generate about 360 -400 HP.
For the last several years, I've been tracking a Z06. Now, I'm in the middle of restoring my 56 year old 40' wooden sloop which was originally built for racing. Same kick, whether at 160+ MPH or 9 knots....
Ok, I could use some help. Why is this car not selling? Where should it be marketed? I tried ebay (posted by a friend who is a car dealer), and it is on Classic Coach's website. Any suggestions? It's a great running car - someone out there will be real happy with it. thanks, Paul
Coming from someone who is in the market for a 308qv your car is too radical for me I think most guys here are looking for more original cars. Don't get me wrong you obviously put a lot of money into this car and kept up with it and I don't think your price is out of line but I think you need to market it to track people.
Paul, You may need to cross off California from you marketing list (at least for street driving) as they would probably arrest the guy who tries to drive it here on the streets and impound the car given the extreme smog regs here.
Given the setup of your car, I agree on marketing it to track day folks who would like to track a Ferrari and can save by buying one that is already track-prepped. Unfortunately, this narrows down your target market considerably (especially in the US). Perhaps one way to widen your market is to target European buyers (my 308 QV sold to a European enthusiast the last 12 months): anamera.com, race-cars.com, racecarsdirect.com, etc. I like anamera myself. If I were to combine my street 328 GTS and my Porsche race car into one car for both functions (street convertible and track car), your car would be a candidate. For me, an ideal car would be a topless, street-legal, historic Porsche or Ferrari race car. I have been thinking about this scenario lately as I have been focused on other priorities and find that I don't drive my pleasure-use vehicles as much as I originally intended. I'm sure there are others like me especially in this economic environment.
I'm very familiar with this car and its owner. I helped Paul do a lot of the work on this car, and it truly is in excellent condition mechanically. With all of the modifications, this is a great track car. But it drives extemely well and could also be used on the street. Is it a "concours" car? No, but then neither are 95% of the 308s out there. If someone wants a great running, high-performing 308, this one would be a good buy.
My $0.02 on why it may not be selling as quick as you like; since you asked. - Regardless of it being legal for the road, as set up, this car is just a track car to me, and probably most others. A 308 track car is a very, VERY, niche market - it'll take time. - If you put the original interior, AC/heat, and bumpers back, and got everything in good working order, I think you could add $5-7k to the car and sell it pronto. The rebuild and repaint (assuming stock bumpers were painted) add good value to any buyer. The FI/ignition, suspension, and brakes add good value to a buyer like me and likely others. - Nothing in the ad mentions if you have all the original pieces you have removed, and the condition of them. Being specific and clear on this in the ad would help. - When the repaint was done, were the original front and rear bumpers painted? - The position of the harness bar makes the car unusable for most all tall drivers. Might be worth indicating if it is welded or bolted in for those considering removing. - Ad needs more pictures of exterior (e.g. the custom rear bumper isn't shown, wheels, etc.). GLWS!
Thanks guys. I do have an aftermarket heater for the car, but no AC unit. All the stock piece are gone. The roll bar is welded in, but not a big issue to remove. However, it does not effect how far back the seats go. Plus the seats have been lowered to give more headroom (one's helmet must be below the roof line). As suggeted, I'll take more pictures and post them. Claudio, thanks for the websites, I give them a try. Of course, if you want to do some trading with your 328, give me a call... there I go, thinking of another Ferrrari. It's really a disease, isn't it. Thanks again, Paul
+308. Originality is important and will only be more so over time. Not really "extreme" -- CA just enforces the smog regs that were in effect whenever the car was sold, which are pretty easy to meet with any car in stock configuration. But the state is strict about enforcement. Other states are likely to enforce the laws already on the books as well, so this 308 will probably not be a viable car for street use in many places. <cough>Porsche 356<cough>
You are welcome. Let us know how the other sites work for you. In my criteria of street/race car combo, one downside of your car is lack of historic race provenance. But then, such cars are multiples of the street cars. ;-) I almost bought a 62 or 63 356 Roadster racer in late 2008. It had period SCCA history (Pomona, Santa Barbara, etc.) and was just restored. We agreed on a price and had a PPI done. The major deal killer was that the owner didn't keep/couldn't come up with documentation/dash plaques proving race provenance important to me. I considered for a while a couple of Alfa Giulietta Spider Veloces, which I prefer the looks and engine over the 356s. As much as I like the 50s period car aesthetics, I'd prefer driving/racing around in disc brake cars; I just couldn't come to grips with the drum brakes. So for now, I'm keeping my street, original 328 GTS and my lowly P Rothmans race car.
My friend just posted the car for me on ebay. Take a look. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-308-GTS-Track-Street-Car-/200633416961?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2eb6aefd01
Paul, Have you tried Autoweek or some of the track related publications like Grass Roots motorsports? Heck ... might even try some of the Porsche club publications. I always get a kick out of how much those guys spend on their track cars. Good luck! cheers
