BB512 or Testarossa? HMMM.That is the question

The TR line is my favorite car line, but I would still take a BB over it. Now a 512TR is another story.

The 512BB is an awesome great looking car no doubt. But so is the 512TR/M, regular TRs arent bad either

I think I would take a BB over a regular TR just to have something different

THE car I would get would be a BBLM or get this a road BB Spyder w BBLM drivetrain, suspension & brake mods SCHWING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're both amazing cars, but I'd probably end up going for the TR.
If you get emotional about the 512BB because it has fond memories attached to it, go for it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Your first red Ferrari picture above is the BBLM?? Does it have side grates stock from the factory?

Prior to seeing that picture, I was under the impression that only 3 models had the side grates (Mondial, Testarossa, and 348).

 

The BB is only going to get more expensive, the TR still has some downside before it bottoms out. Could you afford a BB in 10 more years? Now maybe your last realistic chance to be able to afford one, I do not know your financial situation.

Perhaps a game plan is to buy the BB, keep it until the TRs really hit the bottom of their cycle, sell the BB, get the TR. If timed correctly you could probably get the TR for free after realizing the the profits of the BB sale. If you can realize a $50,000 profit from the BB during your ownership, and TRs drop to $50,000 which I feel will be their bottom of the barrel pricing someday, I think you could enjoy both and get the latter as gift. I do feel that for the TR to get that low however will require a popping of the housing market, a terrorist attack on US soil or a recession like we saw in 1991. The BB will by then be sought by a more elite clinetele where market blips do not mean losing their homes, or worrying about finding a new job, so that vehicle should be more recession proof given the higher price.

BB512 just because I am a sucker for early 80's styling.

 

BBI all the way but Im biased. I like the TR too but I think the BB is a nicer looking car in my opinion and will hold its value and thats important to me because someday I might sell it.

BB512. It's just soooo beautiful and all the pro's been mentioned above. I don't see that many cons and all are age related ..

 

I just bought one of the last Testa's made, 15 mins ago. So guess what my opinion is...

 

Boxer, carbureted or injected.

 

Both awesome cars, but i would go with the 512BB hands down.

 

I checked FML & it seems 512BBi prices are on the rise.

My predicament would be should I get a 512BBi or an E type

If its a Countach..I hate to say it, yes you will be disappointed. Not because its a bad car, but because most likely your newer daily driver will out perform it in every catagory except looks.

The Ferrari's are much easier to live with and they offer more driveability, in this respect, they are not as disappointing, but still they are not what most people expect. They are expecting a 20 year old car with 20 year old tech, to blow them away, but unfortunatly thats just not the case. Jump into a WRX or Evo or even a Z06 Vette, and then you will be blowen away.

I still love the old cars, they just have somthing that the newer stuff is lacking..call it soul, or personality but they just have somthing that you cannot describe. I'll take a BB,TR, etc over any of the newer stuff, except for the 550 of course!.

 

The Countach was designed in the early 70's by a small niche company. It is not for everyone. It does take effort to drive. One should look elsewhere, if they want refinement and practicality. It is alot of work in and around town. The Countach was not designed to drive around town.


The Boxer is a much easier car to drive. The shifting effort in the Boxer, is not easy either. Everything else in the Boxer, is much less effort vs the Countach. The Boxer visibility is excellent, in relation to the Countach.


The Countach is alot of fun on the open back roads. The steering feels great just when it begins to enter triple digits. It will then gel, less the rear view visibility. However you do get used to the poor visibility.

The TR had one of the highest production numbers for Ferrari up through that vintage while the Boxer had far more exclusivity.

Styling should be easy for each viewer as it seems nobody sits on a fence between these cars.

The TR had a wider rear track so entering and exiting turns requires caution or the rears will catch on something.
