Does the chassis number stamping on the block appear to be original?

Early Daytonas had the chassis number as the engine number, but that changed later. Apologies if you already knew this and are questioning the stamping itself.

    From the Daytona Owner's Manual.

Correct Steve, the stamping does not look original to me. What do you think?

It looks like the boss has been 'decked'. Not necessarily ground flat, but sanded or polished away. Despite that it looks like you can see the original stamping ghosted underneath. My guess is that it's the correct number and someone re-stamped it in the past for identification purposes.
Numero inferno against factory docs would of course answer things.

But when and why did 11929 lose its original engine?

Some genius probably thought it would be a good idea to put a Chevy V8 in it. LOL

11929 did not only lose its original engine. Major body parts "disappeared" as well..........or should I say "fell off"?
