I am continuing the reassembly phase of my boxer restoration and realized I may have been missing a bent cross member thinking this was by design- I am suspicious this might very well be a hydraulic jack injury.
I have owned this vehicle since the early 90's and cannot vouch for a prior foolish mechanic...
Or I could be wrong and this is a designed bend. If this is met to be straight I see this as a pretty easy fix.
Looking at Pauls resto I think this is a flat cross member. Image Unavailable, Please Login
    Thanks

given the small size of the cross member,
I’d bet a hell for stout member placed across the lower part of the frame
with a ratchet strap (or two) looped over the bent member would be sufficient to bend everything straight once again.

ps: I do not know for fact if it is oem or bent....

Hopefully it is an easy fix.

But it just reminds us all that when buying these beauties we must be diligent. Unfortunately over the years many of these cars were worked on by people who had no idea what they were doing.

Ludwig, how steady is your car on the scissor lift when at full height?
I am thinking of using one for my TR.

This is a Bendpak lift- 6000 lbs capacity and it is immensely stable.
    https://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/mid-rise-scissor-lifts/md-6xp/
It also allows a lot of access to the undercarriage- I have removed and am re-manufacturing the body pan- no problem at all.
I just didn't have the hight clearance for a 2 post as an alternative.

    Hello Simon
I've also been looking at mid-rise scissor lifts including the one you've identified. The Strongman Tamar looks similar and for a bit more money Strongman sell a Danish made version with rather nice locking arm mechanisms.

    caution -
some scissor lifts are too tall to let the car roll over them without ramps!
not a show stopper - but worth considering.

perhaps the dannmar (or equivalent) may be a better choice.
they unbolt from the floor and roll off to the side when not in use.

You are correct -mine was about 2 cm too high but this is easily addressed by putting 2 ramps alongside.

I cannot bolt them in the floor because of heatingsystem under the whole floor .... pitty ... so I am also thinking of a removable scissor lift ...

Had to use big blocks .... but that did the job for me at that time ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
