This time, I will be installing the engine with the air injection pump (AIP) already installed. An installation with the AIP in place is new for me. It appears as though there will be interference between the oil hose and AIP as the engine slips into place.

    Questions please....

1). Should the oil hose be removed from the tank before installation for necessary AIP clearance?
It looks like making the connection at the tank will be difficult/impossible once the engine and frame is in place.

    2) Is the final hose routing underneath the shift shaft as shown here?
My recollection pictures the hose routed above the shift shaft. Perhaps I had moved it for drainage....

As always, your input is appreciated....

Look through the parts diagram, it may show.

The parts diagram shows clamp #17 hanging the hose below the supporting stud. The stud is just to the left of the shift shaft rod as seen in the photo. If this inference can be trusted, the hose is correctly placed per the photo.

Should the hose be completely removed prior to the engine installation?

This pic shows how the Air Injection Pump is flush with the subframe mounts. It will need to pass vertically right where the hose now sits.

I don't install tank to engine hose, or engine to cooler hose until I have engine back up in place. Just my preference. Hose from tank to motor goes above shift rod.
Thought you were going to replace your hose's?

    Thanks Todd....
If I could find a trusted vendor to rebuild them, I would. At 30 years old, my trust is waining. They are NLA from Ferrari.

I’ll pull the hose and the shift shaft for the installation.

May I suggest an adel clamp (item 17) be used on the stud next to your hose? A secure hose rather than a chaffing stud is a good thing. If you don’t have an adel clamp, a rubber vacuum hose cap over the stud would help greatly. Also... the throttle cable clamp should have an OEM grommet installed. Something for your next service. Any aftermarket grommet will do.

Looks like your fuel lines were re-routed... or not yet installed.

I see your shift shaft boot is nice and dry.... I’m jeolous!

    Thanks for the pic!

The original fittings were never designed to use a crimp ferrule to secure them. There's nothing there for the ferrule to clamp down on.
I would never take the chance, not worth risking a fire. Just my 2 cents

Check out merlin group 308/328 oil hose video on what happens when these "shops" get it wrong.

I had a hose shop for many years that a great deal of the Ferrari community used for years who reused the fitting. He welded on a barbed end and they work perfectly. Nothing in the world wrong with reusing them if done properly. Finished product looked just like those in link above. Oddly enough there are people in the world who know how to do things correctly.

Brian, when my son and I visited your shop and had lunch with you a few years back, you had mentioned something about that guy retiring.

Yes he did. Finding good subcontractors is the hardest part of this business. A lot of talent and people who know how to make it happen are retiring or getting ready to and they are not being replaced. I guess we need more worthless business school grads. Not sure what will be left for them to run.

With the economy roaring like it has been, finding a manufacture for your product without buying 500,000 units and 8-12 months lead time has been challenging.
Every manufacture/subcontractor I have talked too, has said the same thing - lack of talent, labor and work ethic.

Isn't all engine chassi parts originally grey and that "black paint" is actually rust prevent treatment?
