Hey does anyone agree with me here? I am not a fan of the 458 really at all! Is it just be or does the side profile look like a corvette.... the side mirrors are the california mirrors - hideous. The front dont get me wrong that is wicked - the lights and front facia. The rear though again 3 exhaust pipes - you know everyone going to change that to look like a LP640 exhaust and those tail lights again look like the california. And i am sorry the california is nothing appealing at all.

I dont mean to be such a hatter because i know the car 458 is going to drive most likely amazing and i love ferrari technology...and believe me i know - i own a 16m. I love the car...it just seems those side scoops were so iconic and when you looked in your rear view mirror and saw a ferrari behind you - it looked like a fighter jet was there to eat you or lock onto you.

Again i love ferrari - i just feel they missed the mark - but i keep reading every ferrari owners review and they all seem to love it - does anyone thinkthe way i do?

    Frank,
You'll probably find out soon there are already a bunch of threads on this subject. I'll just quickly say that I agree with you. I'm disappointed in the California and 458. But Ferrari will sell thousands of these cars and my opinion doesn't matter to Ferrari. I really wanted to like the 458 because I've had numerous 360's and 430's and was getting a little tired of the look. But I own a Scuderia now and couldn't be happier. The Scuderia and 16M are special cars. I won't be buying a 458 until the stripped out version comes out.

by no means do i mean to discredit the corvette - bang for your buck a good deal - i am just dissappointed with ferrari...i love my 16m... and wanted to so love the next edition... ahh well. Just cant believe a company that designed the F40,50, Enzo, Scud, etc...all so beautiful asthetically and complimented with technology - so missed the mark with the California and the 458... :(

I think the 458 is one of the better looking Ferraris to come out of the factory in a looong time. They missed the mark with the California, that thing looks like it ought to have an Alfa or Maserati badge on it.

I was not a fan of the Enzo when it first came out, but it grew on me. I think the 458 has great lines to it, except for maybe the mid section, it is a little bland, but overall a great looking car.

I really like the 16M. I think when there is a 16M version, whatever it would be called, of the 458 I will like that car even more. Except for the Audi headlights, I think the 458 is an absolutely beautiful stripped down street version of the P 4/5.

Just like wine, its all a matter of personal taste.

UGH! The 64th I hate Ferrari thread in this section....

    1) Taste is in the eye of the beholder

    2) Visual perception and appreciation change over time and circumstances

    3) People are often resistent to the "new", particularly when it comes to art and design

    4) EACH TO THEIR OWN!!!!! Can't we all just get along?

I think you misunderstood what I was getting at. And, as I said in an earlier post, I think I misunderstood also your post.

I said I was not against people making negative judgements about Ferrari. What I objected to was the tone of the opening remark that you posted "Don't sell your 360 or F430!".

I based this on the many, many, MANY inflamatory threads posted in the California section where people just piled on one after another to the point where those that wanted a serious discussion about the car where blasted with every post.

The statement you posted "Don't sell your 360 or F430!" was, in my opinion, red meat for the haters to pile on again.

Also, I think style is different than technical issues. You're post was about that you felt the quality was not as good as the previous cars. This is something that you can measure. When it comes to style, it's subjective. You cannot measure it. It's a matter of taste and everyone has their own.

What I disagree has already happened in this thread. Someone says that one car is better looking than another and the owner of that car is insulted and defends. This is what I mean by "can't we all get along".

So, I apologise if I gave you the wrong impression. I was not against you're claims. I was against what I saw, perhaps incorrectly, as your post intentionally trying to get people to make negative comments by being overly aggressive in the thread's title.

I say... Lets just wait to see the thing in real life before giving a final judgement on the car. I have you seen it, well... YOU'RE LUCKY!! But seriously, im pretty sure MANY MANY people will change their mind after seeing this car in the metal. For the people who have seen the car in real life, i dont remember much that said that car was ugly, or the front looks weird or whatever.

Well, then I guess that I misread your posts too.

So you and I are, at least getting along.

I am not against the F458, not the quantum leap I had expected, it excites and disappoints and with limited availability it puts a new floor on the previous models, makes them less obsolete than imagined... hence the topic don't sell your F430/360

No problem. And I do appreciate your posts of the photos of the car. By far, you've been able to show more detail and explanation than from any other source I've seen. Those of us who have not seen it yet appreciate it greatly!

So far, I have only seen two black, white polka-dot disguised 458s driving up and down the Via Abetone Inferiore, in front of the factory. Even this was only from the top floor of the Planet Hotel. Interestingly, in black, with the white camouflage, and from above, the 458 looked like nothing so much as an F430 berlinetta. I can't wait to see an undisguised 458, at eye level. I do agree with bdelp that perceptions change with time. When the 360 Modena debuted, I thought that parts of it were hideous. Now I recognize it as the trendsetter that it was, although I am also now gaining a new appreciation of the F355 and even the much-maligned 348. Pininfarina really knows how to stir the blood, and most of the time, their designs get better-looking with age. Now that's a real beauty secret, L'Oreal! Fred

It is just you. From the side, both cars have two wheels and two doors. The similarities between the proportions and lines pretty much end there.

IMO guys, the 430/Scud and 16M are not the best looking Ferrari's to date. Too me, the 16M looks like a 430 Spider with some extra stickers on it.
If you think Corvette looks like a Ferrari, well it should because Corvette does it's best to copy Ferrari. When GM designed the last Corvette, GM purchased a Ferrari 360. They had the design studio in the States and engineering team in Germany. The bench mark for the Corvette was the Ferrari 360. That's why it looks like it.
The 458 Italia is a fresh design on a new platform. The 430/Scud/16M was the old platform.
Nobody here is right or wrong. It's just opinions.
