I think you need to be carefull in making some sort of "Black list"

I could maybe see a list of cars that are know salvage/wreck/flood rebuilts or somethign along those lines, but a list of cars that simply lack service history or have questionable (in someone's opinion) conversions or bodywork could lead to trouble.

I can't imagine an owner/seller being too happy if a car makes the list simply because it's worn, has had a few mechanicals issues in the past, repaint, etc.. and thus hurts it's resale. Issues like those probably would hurt the resale, but it's one thing if the buyer does his homework versus the car being publicly listed on a black list.

My car hs been repainted, no serveice records prior to my purchase, lots of non-OEM parts....should I be on the list and as such be burdened with that stigma for all time??

    Just throwing it out there.

What is wrong with providing this information as long as it is accurate?

It can be abused as part of a personal agenda.
How would you feel if a car of yours appeared on such a list because you pissed off one guy who came to look at it?

Thin ice a list like this. IMHO.

Post something that the owner thinks is wrong, queer a sale, and I'll make some money off of you. That's why you shouldn't post these.

Nothing as long as it's accurate.

In the example of the white 512, car fax said one thing about the miles (which was up to snuff with the current add), NNO said another (who has been under a little heat around here for one thing or antoher)....who do we belive? That coupled with an opinion about how the car looks to have had a hard life makes it questionalbe and quailified for the list?

Accurate, objective history is one thing, subjective opion is another.

I'm all for full accurate disclosure.

Well, a lot of the info on "car Fax" is bull. It is only as accurate as the person typing it in. Now listing cars that were in floods, or rentals thats ok. Just don't think car fax is the end all be all.

I think this is a BS idea... and this coming from someone who doesn't currently own AND is currently in the market; I would surely benefit the most out of this type of thread.

However I say it's bad form. One man's trash... IMO.

I think everyone should be responsible for performing their own DD prior to a car purchase, regardless of make. Just commonsense. Besides, what's the criteria for a car being placed on said list? Color not original? Replaced bumpers? How many of you have a REPLACED Challenge grill???? Oh my!

Perhaps it's better to have a list of "sellers who have proven in the past that they are VERY trustworthy"!!! Now that's a thread I'd be interested in reading.

Carfax lists my old 355 as having 2 owners... I was the third and I sold it to the fourth....

And as everyone knows (or should know) 348s are the easiest cars in the world in which to disconnect the speedo. Just unplug one easily accessible wire. There's a place here in LA that is able to change the reading on the digital odometers in 360s and later. He only charges $500....

The ONLY solution is to perform due diligence on each and every car considered for purchase. Knowing the PO always helps.

    YMMV (a lot)
