I do not think cis is confused with efi, my 2 Diablos had the latter, wich is why i did not bring this up, we are comparing with Carbs, we are all very avare the Fuel injection of today is superior to Any kind of induction 30-40 years ago, incl carbs. Bottom line is ,the mighty qv runs amazing with the Bosch fi,and so does 1000s of 911 Porsches in all kinds of versions, clean up the exhaust, loose the bumper garb, then take 2 honest cars(owners) and do a real world shake down, it is,out of the box incl bumpers and cats,no headers the second fastest ct variant, I ,for shure is not claiming the Value should be this or that, let the market deside, i have no interest in speculating, But i do know this,The QV is an amazing car,dd or fi, mine is the latter, and i love it, All 12 cyl and 4 valves of it, and recomend who ever is out there, wanting one,to run and buy, i suggest we all start to promote all variants, regardless of wich we own, then leave the value factor out, enjoy the car,buy what you can afford, there is only 2000 cars world wide ,to go around.

No, I am keeping it long-term. The posts are in reference to what seems to be an over-appreciation of the carb cars and the under-appreciation of the FI cars. I mean, what if there was a Countach variant with carbs that put out 100 hp? Would the market still love the 100 hp car more than the QV FI?

Too bad Lamborghini stopped making “performance” versions in 1990 with the arrival of the Diablo and the 288 GTO is stuck with its emissions-focused FI engine.

Do you think Lamborghini would have built the FI car if they didn’t have to? It was made for a lucrative market adorned with heavy ugly bumpers and a less powerful engine . Not very Lamborghini. Drive them back to back to see which is the factory sanctioned monster designed to destroy all comers. While all variants are most likely undervalued , the QVFI represents an opportunity to own the fantasy at a much reduced price. And removing the ugly is doable.Nothing wrong with that.

Yes they would have to keep up with the competition. The proof came in 1990 with the Diablo. Lamborghini was the last one to join the FI trend and this is not because FI engines offer less performance. Remember they were sold in 1987... 2 years after the 1985 QV hit the market. They had financial issues and FI engines cost more to build.
The bumpers are a different story. Add-ons that can be removed - this is not part of the FI cars naturally. Some DD have the bumpers too (but its rare). The emissions exhaust etc. prevented the FI of achieving 455 hp. I seriously doubt that the FI was designed to put out 420 hp - its likely limited by its exhaust system. But even at 420 hp its treated as if its a 100 hp car... the previous variants never got passed 385 hp and this is significant. Its less powerful than the DD, that’s about it. 420 hp is much more Lamborghini than 385 hp especially since the original prototype called for over 400 hp to begin with.

All cars are undervalued when compared with Ferraris and even Porsches.

I respect all variants and I can see how this debate has caused a split in the Countach camp. Anyone who belongs to this camp is a fortunate individual and I think the difference of opinions is quite healthy. 10-15 years ago most enthusiasts were unaware of the many differences including a belief that a Lowbody didn’t even exist. As more collectors start to explore the Countach , the information will become more commonplace and we may see heavy value differences. That can’t be manipulated in a meaningful way, the market will speak with its own momentum and the Downdraft very well could pull away further and further.
My favorite variant happens to be the Lowbody S1 or 2 , less than 400 horsepower so I can see it from a different perspective. It would make sense that the Downdraft would be highly coveted as it was the highest powered version of the ultimate dream car for millions then and now. Simple math.

The lowbody is a favorite to me as well. Less examples and just more extreme looking. It's been admitted by a well known expert, that a capable driver can often overtake a DD while shifting at 8,000 rpms.

I hope that all Countach owners get a chance to drive a Lowbody, the experience of the high revs, slick steering, lightness , looks, sound, man I’m getting a little too excited here but I mean it!!

Stick with reality, there isn't a Countach variant with carbs that puts out 100 hp.

Have you taken the engine out of a Fuelie, attached sport headers and a sports exhaust, and engine dyno'd it to get true hp @ the crank?

I once saw a man change @ 8,000 rpms  but, this same man rebuilds his own engines.

Seriously, to be fair, we are talking about on a fairly tight circuit, Goodwood to be specific, where the lighter & more planted Lowbody was at an advantage

First your compression comparo is not complete. The difference is 0,2 wich is removed from the piston. This in general is 2-4 hp. The gain from the lighter piston makes for a more rev happy engine. And hp wise similar gain. No vhere is it said the cams where worse less agressuve or better on any model. Just different, in order to match the respective induction system. Iow not worse not better but different. Judging by the real cars performance with similar exhaust headers and all, on the real dyno The Street. Alans car has this. And he will play.

I will state it, the cams used in the qv fi are less aggressive. With less duration, lift and overlap than dd cams. This results in less airflow and less hp in the fi application. It also means cylinder filling is optimized at a lower rpm, so the fi engine will feel stronger at low rpm where the DD will feel stronger at higher rpm. However they will both feel very strong accross the board, so without a very scientific test it will not be easy to assess the differences accurately.

    Cheers Jim

I love my Diablo. Even though the Countach is my most loved Lambo, the Diablo is probably the best.

I suggest you do just that, drive them back to back, given same priveleges, all the way ,all 4 valves quad cams and tubular exhaust, if you are given the opportunity.i know i will.
