Actually I googled it and found a few distributors.I rang one of them up and its about $100 for 5 litres.http://www.royalpurple.com.au/html/s04_services/default.asp?dsb=51
When ol mate calls me back tomorrow, I will ask him about Royal Purple also. Not sure if they can get it, but he is the guy I was going to call when needed. Will let ya know tomorrow mate.
and then there's overkill .... I use the Shell Helix top of the range stuff which is $100 for 10 litres every 5k kms and if it's good enough for Ferrari it's good enough for the QV they are both full synthetics so what would make Redline any better ?
In all honesty JM, I dont think there would really be much difference IMO. All the top end synthetic oils are really good these days. They all share the same properties. Different companies may differ slightly, but all very similar. But the guys that have been using Redline products for years praise it nicely, so it can only be a good thing. I was going to use Shell Helix Ultra in my 348, as that what has always been used in it according to my paper work. But will try some Redline oil, just for the hell of it really. $200+ every year or 5000km is not too bad. I have only done 4000km+ in 18 months, so once a year is ok by me. Have to get some oil now actually, I am due for an oil change. Will get a price on some on Monday and I will get me a Repco oil filter also.
fwiw this is an email i got from a dude at Valvoline back when i was researching it. ################# Redline use ester technology (synthetic and as good as it gets) and a non-corrosive EP additive pack. This allows the use of a GL4 in a GL1 application like the Fiat with substantial benefits. You get GL4 performance without having to put up with GL1 quality (this is about hydraulic oil level). I can understand why the enthusiasts would be impressed and unfortunately we can't do an equivalent. ################# perhaps ask AEHaas for more info in the tech section.
A.E Haas is the oil king. well I like to drive mine a lot (20,000kms in less than a year) so that equates to 4 oil changes and 2 oil filters, I'm using the Fram filters , I can't aford those expensive Repco ones
Oil filter every second oil change? Change every oil change JM. If I lived down there, I would also drive the wheels off my 348. This place is crap. I am going to take my 348 for a drive tomorrow anyways. Been 3 weeks since I drove it. Will see if she starts first.
just did quick calc of the costs for the year $15,325 which includes fuel, oils, services, flywheel, brakes, insurance, rego, rust repair, respray of front spoiler (twice), new battery so that's about 75c/km not counting depreciation and probably some other losses not thought of. Sounds good to me as I use it a lot .... wonder how much the garage queens cost to run per km ?
They reckon to budget around the "$1 per mile" for yearly Ferrari maintainence. So you are close on the money there mate. Very reasonable, as you do drive your QV alot. My 348 is not really a garage queen, as I do drive it............kinda. If I did not blow my clutch up, I can honestly say that car has not cost me anything over the 18 months and 4000km. Well, an oil change is due, from last year, so budget around $250 I reckon. Whats that work out per km?
Ok cool. Say $2200 for clutch kit, $1577 insurance, $769 rego, $250 oil change, maybe $1000 fuel (not sure there) and probably $600 for rear tyres that I will need soon. Ummm..............18 months have cost me $1.59/km. The best fun/money I have ever spent.
this shows young pap that you need to drive the thing more you add 10,000kms to that and see it add about another $1000 in fuel and $300 in oil and filters but the $/km drops significantly
I know. But it is so boring driving the car here. Car is awesome, but roads are crap. Will drive the wheels off it when I hit the GC.
Now if we could only pay that on a daily basis(day of use) instead of getting hit up @ $1000+ at a time, you would see alot more Ferraris on the road haha.
