It is taking over nearly every thread now.

When I first joined fchat and found this section I was in heaven, actual owners of the cars I only dreamed of, happily chatting about the ownership experience, even with run of the mill guys like me.

It made me realise we are all petrolheads under the sun, just some have a bigger budget than others, but at the root of it we all simply loved these cars.

Even having the chance to converse one on one with recognised experts in the field is amazing for me in here.

However now its all about predicting the future and how they are hugely growing in value, mainly to the detriment of actually being used and enjoyed.

Wake up and smell the roses gents, some of you are in a position in life that the majority of us out there aspire to, but also accept we will never get there, so live that fantasy via your own experiences.

Lets get back to talking about the cars, their engineering, pics of them in the wild, the driving and ownership experiences, and the bonus simply is that when time comes to move them on you may actually make a couple of quid.

If you’re not in tune with market rates of cars then you could run into insurance issues depending on how your coverage is set up. leaving you under water if there’s a loss.

Paul, I understand you position and views and they are quite right from someone who loves these machines.

As an example to your standpoint, I personally had my F40 as a daily runner and I owned it for nearly 20 years and drove it as wild (guaranteed) as anybody did (at least on public roads). Purchase price £160k.

Similarly with a Porsche Carrera GT at full power week after week, year after year taking her from a thousand miles to 10,000 miles. Carefree, happy and at one with the machine. Purchase price £150k.

Also with an F50, taking these boring exhausts off and putting straight pipes on and the revs at 8,000 rpm year after year. Purchase price £380k.

When the value goes from £380k to £3m and you enjoyed driving it as it was meant (and so much more) for more than a decade, and you are now faced with the possibility of somebody smashing into you back with a loss in the millions, irrespective of insurance, then you might start to understand why some owners who have experienced over many years what you so eloquently described have now a different excitement with their masterpieces (eg restoring the invisible 4 corners for £20,000 or enjoying the relentless interest in cars similar to theirs as reflected by the ever growing price people are willing to pay for them).

I hope that clarifies a bit the non-monochromatic interaction and experience these lovely machines can give to their owners, those who maintain them and those who like to watch them or chat about them.

Most of the people who obsess over that are not owners. Some are but in my experience not. Our lessor valued cars are going up but it is always someone else who tells me. I never follow it.

You make some good points, personally I think it's okay to discuss values, but the predicting of future values should always be taken with a pinch of salt, all that really matters in the market is verifiable sales results.

    Very true.

    Awesome.

That's a nice thread, but on balance you did start this thread https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/the-f40-is-undervalued.601297/

I'm not sure any thread is responsible for the increase in values of F40s and other Supercars, the point I was making was that you're not only speaking about driving your car, you're also speaking about values, both of which are perfectly fine.
