FYI I'm having the same issue with the 305/35/20 being on a long backorder. Ordered mine at the beginning of Feb and they haven't become available yet

    Hello,
Before I order these tires I have one more question and I would like your advise.

The rear in 305/35/20 is only available in the regular black-wall version.
The fronts 245/35/20 comes in the KI Ferrari designation, even is available in the K2 and of course the regular black-wall version.

What should I get? All four in the regular black-wall version? Or, use the K1 or K2 in the front.

Michelin tires I would like to use:
    245/35/20 MPS4S
    305/35/20 MPS4S
    2014 458 Spider

    I appreciate your input.
    Thanks
    Ray

The regular non-OE will work well. They will have the same character.

Remember that K does not mean better tyre, specific Ferrari compound, better quality control or the like. The K1, K2 etc are for specific models. In other words, here's no guarantee that a K marked tyre will work better, because it might be for a totally different car. K2 for example, is the Porto shoe, and have a VERY narrow tread. The K1 is for the Lusso and is a different tyre from the K2.

If you want the 245 and 305 setup, just use the regular non-OE version.

    Hello ll Co-Pilota,

I ordered these Michelin tires as you advised. However, I’ve been waiting since April 23. Apparently, a shortage of tires. Who knows!

Question, do I have to realign the car? Or, any other adjustment to the camber?
    Let me know...

    Thanks Ray,

No you don't need an alignment per se, but it is a really good idea to have one done. They always get knocked out of toe a bit over time.

As for camber the 458 can greatly benefit from some added camber in the front. Get the fronts set to -1.3, it will greatly reduce understeer and outside tyre wear. It will also increase mid corner grip.

    Really appreciate your advice.
I followed up on my order and told i would need to wait an additional 3 months. So, that makes 5 months for these tires.

    Do you recommend another brand?
Or should I just continue to wait?
I'm using the Michelin 4S now. I'm happy with them I just wanted the wider sizes...

Let me know and thanks again..

I would run this instead without thinking twice about it.

    https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+Supercar+3&frontTire=435YR0F1S3XL&rearTire=035YR0F1S3

I know of a few guys who's opinion I trust, that are very impressed to say the least. Slightly more aggressive than the MPS4S but less so than the Cup 2. Definitely a good middle ground for a street driven 458.

The link only takes me to the TireRack home page. What tires are they?

But be careful. The understeer with the stock setting is really not bad and is at least predictable. The car gives some warning when you’re understeeing before it breaks loose.

IMO, understeer in these cars is considerably easier to deal with than oversteer for the average driver. Wiping out understeer could cause the rear to become more active.

I’ve snapped both the front and rear loose at various times - rear is a bit more unsettling and more difficult to handle.

Thank you for the recommendation.. I will look into these tires. They seem to handle and perform better, tighter grip and sportier cornering. Some complaints about noise and road felling.
As far as tread life that doesn’t concern me.

The Michelin 4S is a great tire but it does give a more soft and quiet ride. They seem bouncy and soft to me. I’ve had them for over three years now and have put about 5-K miles.

    Thanks again for your advice…

Not bad? It understeers into next week.

By adding a bit of camber as suggested will by no means cure all understeer. You need both more camber and a different toe to do that. -1.3 is not aggressive, it barely scratches the surface. It actually make the car more predictable as you won't keep pushing through the understeer until the rear snaps and comes around. Simply put, too much understeer gives you a false sense of security.

Maybe I’ll try it and set if to -1.3 (sounds very Teutonic). I’ll keep repeating that number as I’m driving off the edge of civilization at The Tail where you’re a loooong way from help.

Doesn’t matter, they won’t find me for weeks anyway. Up there I need all the false sense of security I can muster.

The 4S has softer sidewalls compared to its predecessor Super Sports. You can dial out some of that by using slightly higher inflation pressures, 1-2 psi more than OEM spec.

    Hi Guys
After going with stock sizes on my stock wheels las year I decided to go with a new set of wheels and different tire sizes and here are the results.
So last week I just installed a set of ADV.1 Rims on my 458 that are 9x20 Front Offset 44 and 11 x 20 offset 50 rear and the shop recommended this setup. 255/30/20 and 305/30/20 rears. So far so good with no issues at all. (only 100 miles) It looks like its about 4.5% larger rear compared to 6% larger rear with the stock set up so maybe the TC Side Slip Etc has a couple of percentile perimeter that it works within. Any thoughts folks?

    Thank you!!!

I'm new here and in the process of buying a 458 and dealer is offering me new tires with the options between OE sizes or 245/35R20 and 305/35R20, both MPS4S. In the end I'm going with the wider ones.

Local Ferrari dealer doesn't risk anything and didn't confirm the wider sizes, but reading threads here gave me confidence.

Btw epic comment "However, the much wider rears will make the car push like mad and understeer into next week." :D

I have been using these for sometime now. I’m very happy with them.. I went with the slightly wider size Co-Pilota suggested. You won’t have any issues at all..

    Michelin:
    245/35/20 MPS4S
    305/35/20 MPS4S
    2014 458 Spider

Now the Cup-2 is another choice but will be a major issue in the rain…
