Tonight is cheap steak night at the ranch. Rib eye on sale at Kroger for $5/lb. Woo hoo!

Came out not too bad for a skillet. Although I'm counting down the days to this reno is over and I can get back to my grills! Served with homemade guac and fresh corn on the cob.

Too late for tonight. Decided basic chicken stir fry.

Pictures look good. Kind of sketchy area. Id go and will try it this week. But I wouldn't send a tourist/visitor there on their own. Especially at night!

Its not so bad you'll get stabbed or shot. Although you could get robbed if you went down the wrong street. Its more I know the places close to park but far enough away your car is less likely to get broken into. In that area some pretty good eats and one or two decent bars, even. There is a park just up the street. Mostly homeless people with mental illness use the park. Maybe not dangerous, but one or two may bother you aggressively for money to outright go nuts on you. I just know how to get there and avoid the certain parks, etc.

Some of the best hole in the wall joints in Memphis are like that. In poor, sketchy neighborhoods. One place noted for pork barbecue sandwiches, when we walked in, it was roasting hot, ceiling tiles falling down. Missus looks at me and says "I'll be waiting in the truck with the engine and A.C. running. Don't screw up my order." 😄

Not the song I was thinking of when I read the name. A good one though... Dinner looks awesome too.

I had dinner at my sisters new place in Clinton Hill tonight. Da Ciro Brooklyn. Aside from perfect food they also make a perfect negroni. The menu is built around the wood burning stove.

 

Its an entire live album of one of their tours throughout Wisconsin. One of their best albums in my opinion, and very fitting for this evening.

Your sisters place looks great! What else comes out of that wood burner?

 

Hole in the walls usually have great food.

A seafood restaurant a few blocks down and in the middle of the street action was awesome. Until the original owners leased the place.

The company my Dad was with had offices in Chinatown, sort of the outskirts of the bad area. Brokers took clients to that place in the 80's. My dad took me there mid 80's. I thought he was nuts for taking me there.

 

That oven just looks great. Between you and SCFerrari, I'm trying to figure out how to convince my wife that my backyard needs a wood fired oven.

Question for those in the know. Is there a heat source (burning logs?) underneath the chamber where the pizza, food, etc. is being cooked? Or just the logs burning inside the oven? Do you just set up a raging fire inside the oven, brush the ashes outta the way, and then get to cooking?

The latter. The fire heats the stone/brick within and you cook on that, obviously with the fire continuing to provide a heat source.
