I have a Mondial QV cab, and yes 2nd is stiff until it warms up. In the fall & spring, when colder, I also go from 1st to 3rd. But, during summer usually not as bad. Not a big deal. Other Ferrari's I drove had same problem.

There is no guide on mileage or time, it's just a characteristic of the car, if yours is okay don't worry, just enjoy the car - by the way what gear oil are you using ?

NEVER had a problem getting into 2nd.gear in my '81-308. Maybe because it only has 17,800 miles,I dont know. But,never heard about it until just reading this thread, now. Had my car almost 3 years. When should this maybe start to be an issue with my car?

Hi
Same with the mondial T. Certainly not an issue for me!. One of the querky ways of Ferrari. Well worth it though, especially when you hear the engine note.

All Ferraris I had had those issues.

A non-issue to me!

better gear oil should relieve this a little.

I think thats definately a problem I can live with. Tbanks for the comments.

When I had my M5 I had to wait for the engine oil to warm up before taking it over 3500 revs. Sometimes that was very annoying, as by the time the engine warmed up you were at your destination!

I can see myself taking the long route when I finally get my mondial!

After reading a few threads about Redline 75/90NS I switched from Amsoil to Redline. Almost no problems with the Amsoil, but the Redline makes the shifting feel like zero effort....try the Redline and you should have no 2nd gear issues

I was told my Mondial had trouble with second gear until warmed up. So far, zero difficulty, but then it is still summer. Don't worry about it.

This goes way back to pretty much all Ferrari's, the main reason is that second gear is so large (in diameter) it takes a lot of slowing down and the syncro ring just can't handle it from cold - even when it's hot it can sometimes be a problem. The "experienced" Ferrari driver usually shifts from first to third when cold, or if it's a more modern car you can pull away in second gear !

Depending on where you live, and the climate changing the viscosity of the oil will help, the thinner the oil the better the gear change, but this could result in more wear. Many owners in the UK run different oil in the summer opposed to the winter in order to achieve the best gear change as possible.

It's the same with the 328. I had a 328GTS before and the 2nd is difficult to engage until the box is warmed up. So just go from 1st to 3rd until you've driven a few miles. Then 2nd will be easy.

I may soon be buying my first ferrari, a Mondial QV. I remember reading somewhere that the mondials/308s have a stiff second gear until the gearbox fluid warmed up.

Is this correct? Does it cause a problem? If so what can be done to overcome it?
